I’ve been looking at lenses and I was wondering would sigma lenses be compatible with my Canon 40D?
I a beginner so go easy on me, I know absolutely nothing about anything but Sigma seem to be a good brand?
Cheers,
/sSanderMemberYou have to take care in selecting a lens, they have different fittings but yes, some sigma’s will fit on your canon, just make sure you buy the right one. It is usually said on the description
squ1dMemberlousyParticipantSigma are an excellent brand and cover various fits-
All you have to look out for is ‘Canon fit’
Once it says that it’s happy days
Patsqu1dMembersnaphappyMemberHey squid what sigma lens you thinking about buying sometimes people presume that if they go sigma/tamron/tokina that they are getting better value than if they bought canon and thats not always the case. If you ask about a lens here not only will you get opinions onthe lens but the lads will normally suggest others options.
squ1dMemberSanderMemberI’m gonna go with a 17-70 for landscape i think, heard good things about that one, and then as an addition to that a 70-300 i think it was
squ1dMemberI have a 17-80mm at the moment. Would I get much benefit getting the 10-20mm?
SeaviewParticipantThe 10 – 20 lens is a super lens for landscapes, I think you will benefit greatly from the extra width.
Dave.
lousyParticipantTwo of my compatriots in Wexford use the Sigma 10-20 and swear by it-
In fact I will be investing myself in the not too distant future
If that’s any help to you, one of them also said that the Sigma is sharper than the Canon 10-22
PatsnaphappyMemberI have never used this but if I recall our PI trip to doolin three of the members from here were using it out of twelve so I think that speaks for itself…
MarkKeymasterThe 10-20 can be a good lens, but I do know of one member here who has returned theirs.
In fairness that could just be bad luck. There’s always the chance of getting a lens with a problem.Personally, I think that it’s worth taking the chance. As snaphappy mentioned quite a few members
here swear by it so… :)Oh and there are no such things as silly questions on here ;)
Let us know what you decide :)
nfl-fanParticipantI have a 17-80mm at the moment. Would I get much benefit getting the 10-20mm?
The difference between 10mm and 17mm is massive IMO. I have a 17-85mm but I’d take the 10-22mm over it any day when it comes to landscapes
