Carne, Co. Wexford (B+W)

nfl-fanParticipant
The last time I posted this pic, I’m proud to say, it was a resounding flop with not even a single comment (good, bad or indifferent)
Given my recent delve into the world of HDR and some inspiration from mgst’s ‘Balbriggan Harbour B&W’ post I decided to give this pic another shot.
Now… If by this time Monday I have zero comments (good, bad or indifferent) then I know that this pic is destined for the trash…
Even if it’s crap or simply boring.. just tell me!!!!
wexkel11MemberHi John, Excellant conversion, it works very well. I suppose the trick is to find the correct medium for the subject, you’ve certainly done that here. You’re really getting to grips with the HDR. Mike
SeaviewParticipantI would agree with Mike, this image really suits that conversion. It really brings out a great sky. That’s two comments in a few minutes, now your flying.
Dave.
nfl-fanParticipantPhew… (Wiping the sweat from my brow).
Thanks lads! Admittedly the first time I posted this pic it was crap and I’d be a lot happier with this one.
lousyParticipantCertainly works now J, An excellent conversion and really looks well
PatAlan RossiterParticipantHmmm…not sure about this one John. Remember, photography is subjective so you can choose to ignore my comments if you like.
I think the HDR may be a little heavy on this one. The contrast in the pier in the foreground looks contrasty but bright and the sheen from the boats along down the outside liiks to have blended with the metalwork and wheelhouse and lost it’s definition.
You got the composure right and as far as I can remember from the first post this would have converted well to B&W anyway without the HDR. If you have CS3 you can use the Black & White converter but brought some details in first with the SHadow and Highlight tool without the need for a HDR.Alan.
nfl-fanParticipantI hear what you’re saying Alan… the boats had a lot of sun coming in from the left hitting them… my dodging was very quick and sloppy so I’ve most definetly brightened a sheen area that could have done with being left alone.
That being said.. the entire conversion took less than 2 mins… rough and ready…
PixelleMemberOK, with the sun coming from the left, the glow in the sky from over the top of the wall [above the farther off boats, and over the two tyres] seems a bit bright.
Or am I just seeing things?
And perhaps a little rotation?
nfl-fanParticipantHumm… looking back I don’t think the sun was coming from the left… I just dodged the sheen too much.
Trying to remember but I think the sheen from behind the wall is actually the sun…
(20 seconds later)
Humm… just looked at the original and that doesn’t add up either…
I think the answer is I went hell bent for leather on the dodging… and over-dodged it.
No rotation… look at the light post.. t’is straight up methinks???
In summary… 2 minute conversion (inc. HDR)… rough as a bear’s arse in places… could have been better, could have been worse!!!
Cheers
PixelleMemberRe rotation, must be the effect of the boats leaning against the wall that has me seeing things.
Hey, looking at the sky, is that a cloud I see or an approaching wave?! Surreal!
nfl-fanParticipantis that a cloud I see or an approaching wave?!
I spent two minutes processing this pic and 2 hours staring at it ever since… (should’ve probably been the other way around)… and at this stage I’m going a bit demented looking at it… could be a UFO my eyes are so screwed up at the mo’ :)
ProinsiasParticipantokay, so this pic really appeals to me, really like it. tried to locate the first posting of this and gave up after 5 minutes or so. could you repost the two together or point out where I could find the first posting? would like to do a comparison…
thanks,
proinsias.mgstParticipantReally like the conversion on this one the only little niggle is the the whites are a little too bright
but overall full of texture.Mick
orla_fParticipantI really like the composition in this – I too would like to see the original to compare.
Orla.
