Fast medium telephoto lens for street use

I’m talking about Nikon. As I’m struggling with my manual 135 lens when shooting street stuff at night, I will invest in a fast af lens in this range. I thought about the 85/1.4, which is much shorter than my preferred 135 (200) or there is the 105/2 DC AF, which is closer, but it’s a tad bit slower. Does anyone have experience with these lenses or any other idea to cover this range. I think a 70-200 VR would be nice, and I probably will buy it this year, but it’s just too big and heavy for candids… or is it not?

I’ve got a Sigma 50-150mm 2.8 HSM DX lens that I used for about a year. It’s not too big or heavy like the 70-200 (I’ve got the Sigma 70-200 now). I found it was really sharp and being 2.8 all the way through its fast as well. I’ve no use for it anymore as I’ve upgraded a fullframe sensor. If your interested give me a shout. Here are a couple of shots I took with it.

I remember the first picture and I love it. I will have a think about your offer, but I still lean towards primes to be honest.

Amateur Photographer had a good review of the new Tokina 50-135 f2.8 last week. Seems to be a good lens.
