    Hi all,
was hoping to get CS2 or maybe 3 for the new mac, but it’s taking a little longer than I thought (need to, ahem.. save up ) was thinking of getting elements or something in the meantime.
    Any thoughts, suggestions anyone?

    Cheers,
    Sinead.

I have CS2 & CS3 Master collection, After effects and lightroom.
I use all the programs most days, think if your a beginer and want to learn it right start with CS2 or 7.0
Doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the new one’s but you will understand the technical aspects alot better

I’d have to say that if you can’t afford the full version of Photoshop, buy Lightroom in the interim. I use both Photoshop and Lightroom in my workshops and most of my students end up buying Lightroom when they get back home.

Lightroom doesn’t allow for local tone/colour changes and doesn’t have the complicated layering and masking of Photoshop, but it will get you most of the way there for virtually all images.

When you can afford Photoshop, you can use the two in conjunction very easily – Lightroom to make the initial broad edits and Photoshop to make the refined ones.

I second Peter on that. Lightroom is a very cheap interim option, I find I use it for 90-95% of my workflow and venture into photoshop for more complex stuff like layers and the like.

Aperture from Apple is another option, buts its more expensive and way more power hungry, ie, if you dont have a fairly high spec machine, leave it where it is.

So, my advice would be, get lightroom, and CS2 or 3 whenever you can.

Thanks again guys for advice. Just been on to Amazon and bought Photoshop CS3 student edition for ?135.00!! You have to send proof of where you are studying etc… Massive saving!! Think Lightroom will most likely be the next buy but may not be for a while yet.

    Cheers,
    Sinead.
