Hi all, can anyone advise me on what Camera, Lens and other gear i should buy,, and what prices?? am totally new to photography but reckon with a bit of help, training and hard work that i could someday have my own photography profession…. Please help !!!
culchieboyParticipantHi Sirvad
Your question is like asking how long is a piece of string.
IMHO it really doesn’t matter what you use as long as you are happy with it and that it feels right. Personally I use Nikon but all the major manufactureers make good stuff.
As to what you should get is defined by your budget.
New/second hand is up to you. Shop around as prices vary widely.
If you can try out different models and pick the one you like best.
Good luck

spudMemberyou can but new from hong kong on ebay but shiping is costly in around 50euro for a 14-24 mm lens so the bigger the item to more it costs. i get all my stuff from ebay because its cheap, just got teh sigma 10-20mm for 340. euro i think they are 599 in the shops
SanderMemberThat being said, If you decide to order from there, there still is a realistic chance you’ll get hit by VAT and Customs Costs which will drive it up to, or over the market price in Ireland.
spudMemberpetercoxMemberCustoms aren’t stupid. Even if marked as a gift you can still be hit with VAT and duty. Less of a chance, but still a risk.

ThorstenMemberThere is always a risk when you import something in this manner and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. If something is marked as a gift and it shouldn’t have been then you may end up with nothing as it may be confiscated. Only you can decide if that’s a risk worth taking. And no, I’m not scaremongering, just trying to point out that it’s not all rosy! I have yet to hear of this happening to anyone, but that doesn’t mean it wont happen sometime in the future!
culchieboyParticipantEbay offer great prices.
There have been many posts, search for Kea Photo or Urgalaxy with the search facility on this site and you will see all previous posts on subject.
Personally I have bought from Hong Kong with no issue but I have also bought preowned gear on Ebay from UK, Germany, France and Switzerland – all of which have been pleasent experiences.
