Wow.. 3 shots all with tremendous qualities.
Pic #1 – The manner in which you have constructed this image is very interesting. There is an angelic look to the centre swan.
Pic #2 – A great candid shot, slice of bread attached to the lens?
Pic # 3 – Nice sense of movement captured there. You must have been well down close to the ground.
The mono conversion looks great too.
BrickeeParticipantlousyParticipant? great shots Mick. #1 looks like a rehearsal for synchronized swimming
PatrandomwayMemberThey look like a two-headed dragon on the second one… these are not the swan photos I was expecting when I opened the page. Very good ideas and beautiful dof on all of them. The dark tones are fantastic, love them.
Tadhg HealyMemberreally nice perspective on the third shot…putting your gear at risk a wee bit though!! recently took a non-standard swan shot…more an abstract shot really I suppose,. any thoughts appreciated…hope im not hijacking thread but I thought id bunch the swan shots together!

RobMemberLast one, promise
I certainly hope not…
Mick, I’m stunned.
Some nice trickery in the first, and I’d love to know how
you did it. Seamless, a perfect avian arabesque…As for the second and third images I’m simply bowled over.
Swans, not unlike horses, are difficult enough subjects to take
interesting photographs of, but you’ve succeeded in spades
with both of these. Both perfect examples too of the use of skewed
horizons in portraying movement and tension. The sense
of motion in the final one in particular is simply brilliant. You
could call it “The charge of the flight brigade…”My favourite swan shots… ever!
Rob.
RobMemberMy favourite swan shots… ever!
I keep coming back to look at these again, so I though
it was worth repeating the above…Rob.
Noely FParticipantThese are brilliant Mick, number 2 especially! Great to see a different take on Swan shots…excellent work
Mick451ParticipantThanks for all the positive vibes.
Glad you liked them so much, Rob.First one is a single image, flipped horizontally.
Rather than mirror the big swan at the bottom – which looked quite nice too – I kept him as he was.
Second and third shots both use two images each, pretty much joined in the centre. These swans hang out in the Swords estuary and are well used to people feeding them, so they’re quite friendly.
They do bite, but only when you run out of food and they think you’re holding some in your hand…just checking, like.
Their bite has damn all strength in it, no power in their jaws at all.
That said, with a long strong neck and hard beak they can do a decent bit of damage if you get them riled up.
