Lens for car photography

I was messing around with my sigma 10-20 and took a few pics of my car realy close up and i am wondering what would be a good lens to do this kind of stuff with.

Superwides are certainly cool for superwide up-close shots. It suits sports cars but not family buses ;)
For action shots a long fast tele is good. The perspective compression is great for racing stuff.
I would use the sigma at 20mm and a few strobes or lightpainting with one flash in a dark environment… as my car is c**p I don’t do either. I used the 18-70 nikkor zoom before i sold it…. Well, this car takes me wherever I want to go and it is even handy on the narrow mountain roads, but it’s still not something I like to show :)
I really like that shot randomway its excellent… i have takin over 10,000 shots of cars easily so i know a good one when i see it lol used to have to go to EVERY car show in the country and take about 300 per show :roll:
The 10-20 is excellent for car shots its all i use now for the Auto-Portraits but i started off using the kit lens which done as well as expected.
Takin with the Sigma 10-20 ;)i took this one yesterday sky is crap cos it was only after raining used my sigma 10-20mm f/4.5 iso 100 1/25sec 11mm i need to replace the sky in it but other than that im very happy with it

To be honest, I’d try stay away from super wide angles as much as possible, its very easy to get sucked into thinking that everyone loves distorted photographs, but the opposite is most often true. That is speaking from first hand experience.
I use a 24-70 f2.8, 50mm f1.8, 70-200 f2.8 and 300mm F4 L IS with a 24-105 F4 L IS on the way aswell. I try and get the proportions of the car correct, so the image isn’t too distorted, then play around with different compositions as you see fit. I have a 10-20 aswell, but try to control myself as it is a very addictive lense !
This one was taken with the 50 f.18, sot at maybe around F5.6-F8ish off the top of my head.
I usually hold off using the WA now for interior shots, this was shot at 16mm on 1Ds MKII, a rough equivalent to 10mm on a 1.6x crop sensor.
This was shot at 35mm on the 1Ds, around F4ish again, with a 580EX popped off around the car in a completely dark pit garage at Mondello. It was also my first shoot for a magazine in the United States.
I’ve recently invested in some strobes, triggers, stands and brollies. My first shoot with it all should be this weekend coming, I’ll be sure to let you know how I get on :)
thx for the tips paddy. love teh in car shot looks cool and that twincam is sweet. couple of my girlfriends sons mates have asked me to do a few shoots of there cars now they have seen the pic of his one :) looking forward to it should be fun ill post up the shots when i have them done
