This place is about 2 miles from where I live and its on the Shannon Estuary . The tide is out and everything is just so calm and peacefull .This is a massive mud bed . This is my first picture i every posted . I’m a total newbie so I would appreicate honesty when commenting on it and its good and bad points . Thanks

    Mike –
It’s a nice image. There are some nice things going on, compositionally and texture-wise, but there are also some areas for improvement.

Firstly, the horizon is crooked and should be straightened. You can find a tutorial on how to do that in Photoshop on the tutorials section of my website: http://www.petercox.ie/tutorials.php.

Secondly, the brighter areas of cloud have been overexposed and show no detail. If you were photographing in RAW this might be recoverable, but if not you have to be careful of those areas when shooting and check your image histogram.

Compositionally, it’s nice, although the horizon is a little centered – I would have tilted the lens down a bit to give about 1/3 to the sky and 2/3 to the foreground. The area of disturbed sand to lower right is disharmonious and I would have stepped to the left to avoid it, or stepped forward and tilted the camera down further to keep the same basic view of the sandbar intact.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
    Peter
