How can I sell my work?
-
grsParticipant
I’ve been taking photos for a number of years now. Mainly architecture and landscapes, when I was using film, till the start of last year, I used black and white, since I got a digital camera I’ve been taking in colour and then changing to gray-scale.
I would like to start trying to sell my photographs, one suggestion made for some of my work would be for graphic design, I’ve also read about stock photography libraries. Has anyone used these, what are you experiences with them?
What sort of money could I expect to get?

andy mcinroyParticipantHi GRS,
Do you have any work online for us to view? It would give us a better idea of your potential markets.
All I would say to you at this stage is, don’t expect landscape photography to pay your bills.

grsParticipantHeres a few links to some architectural pics of mine.
I’m not able to get at most my work because I’m having a problem with my storage server.http://www.flickr.com/photos/58085117N00/190076330/

grsParticipantI tried to register with two stock photo website to sell pictures but they need you to have a company or be with one. Are companies hard to set up, how would I go about this?
MarkKeymasterI’ve registered with istockphoto in the past as have a few others from here, no company information was required.
Of course, their rates are not comparable to the good/better rates you’d get with gettyimages, cobris and the likes…grsParticipantIt was Getty and Alamy I was trying to sign upto. I need to setup a company for something else I want to do anyway.
ShakeyBlakeyMemberYou simply have to register a Company name,
http://www.cro.ie/ena/business-registration-business-name.aspx
its fairly cheap and thats all you need for now, you’ll get a registration number and include that and the name on your form.PuckpicsMemberI have just sold my first commercial picture to a magazine in Poland via Photographersdirect.com which makes the offering of being a fair agency – I will send you a proper link when the server is back up.
My advice to you is to be very wary of microstock / royalty free agencies if your pictures sell – once in the wild you can never reclaim your authorship rights
