Taken in temple bar on saturday afternoon.

Would this be considered low key?

WOW! That’s all I think about it. Thanks for the large size, looks really good.

Brilliant detail in the cheek. The eye looks a little unsharp but the framing is very nice on this.

    IrishAqua,

The eye may look a littl;e weird as it was very dark and I ran the dodge brush over it, should probably have taken more time on it.

The framing is down to cropping a shot of his head and adding black for him to stare into.

In fact here is the original (crap as it is).

And sure while I’m at it here is another version. I’ve just discovered the flip tool and masks.

Edit: I’ve tried resizing it, but not exactly sure what I’m doing so may have to try again.

This is a bit too large now… but it’s a good idea. Looks like he was standing in front of a mirror.

Wow. Detail is incredible. Nice moment caught, and it works well against the black background. Good processing to bring out the mood.

Great detail..I can almost feel the stubble! Or perhaps not!!
How did you remove the finger?

For the detail in the stubble it was simply done using unsharp mask, I didn’t even adjust what it recomended.

For the finger I used the clone stamp tool with a larger brush. I think the beard made it much easier than it would be on skin.

The mood (colour) was done using a levels adjustment layer. Without question the best thing I have learned in photoshop for improving my pics is the use of the levels adjustment layer.

For any beginers like me that don’t use it all I can say is start now it is sooooooo easy it is ridiculous and improves just about every shot I take.

Super work. Nice tones and framing.
Amazing what you can do with, as you say yourself, a crap original!
