canon 400d batteries

I am getting a 2nd battery for my canon 400d. Has anyone heard anything bad about the non canon models on ebay?
I bought a few Hahnel ones in Dublin which were cheaper and rated higher than the Canon equivalent. Never let me down.

It was somewhere on Liffey Street as far as I can remember.

is the standard canon battery lithium ion? or nickel cadium? would it be worse to use one over another?
what if one of those non OEM ones destroys your camera though? will canon repair it for you?
No I think Canon wouldn’t repair free of charge but they will always repair it for a nice cost. After getting advice here I bought the 7day shop batteries a couple of weeks and have not had any problems as yet, very cheap also. Under 25 euro for two including postage.
