20D Shutter replacement/repair

Hi, I’m guessing the shutter has failed on my 20D, (err 99 and continuous mirror slap when the camera is switched on, as if someone has their finger on the shutter button permanently)
If anyone has had a shutter replaced can you tell me where you had the work done and the cost?
Repairers I know of:
1) ISS/Image Supply Systems Dublin – I’ve heard they send work to Canon UK anyhow in which case what’s the advantage of dealing with them as against Canon UK?
2) Canon UK – had a lens repaired in the past, shipping is a cost factor. Does it cost extra for CPS repair?
3) Fixation UK – never dealt with these, seem to have good reputation but would like to hear from anyone who’s dealt with them
Thanks.
guthrijParticipantIt might be simpler to replace the camera. Here is one on eBay from Ireland. Please note I just found this when I was browsing eBay, I am not connected to the seller on any way.
vistaphotosMemberThe thought had crossed my mind, but it depends on repair cost. If cost of repair and cost of a second hand camera were around the same I’d rather repair. The logic being that I know the background of my own camera, whereas there’s no real way of telling how many shutter actuations there are on a camera from someone else. Had been planning to go for a 1D of some sort later in the year anyhow, keeping the 20D as a backup, this might bring those plans forward. It’s a case of figuring out my options.
lousyParticipantYou could try the Camera Repair Centre in Portabello Harbour.
He might possibly do the work himself.
His name is Alan.PM me if you want his phone number.
Don’t think I should put it up here///
Cheers
