If anyone has one which will fit a 40D with a 300 mm f/2.8 I’ll take it off your hands asap.

    Thanks

    Hi,

You can buy rain covers from a company called “Cameras Underwarter” in the UK. I`m not sure how effective the covers are, but aquatech are a well known brand.
    The web address is http://www.camerasunderwater.co.uk/slr/aquatech/sportshield.html

I think I have a tenba one stashed away somewhere that I dont use. If I dig it out & check it, I’ll pm you details. It’s not an aquatech, but it does the job, for a fraction of the cost!

What happens when it’s lashing with rain and the rain is coming sideways/from behind!!! There’s a reason most covers seal up at the back!!

Hi Folks, We at Barker Photographic sell the Top of the range Aquatech rain covers (The Ones all the top Irish and international Sports Photographers use), they are quite expensive (but not anywhere near the price of a new Focus motor). For anybody who does not HAVE TO go out in the rain but wants occasional protection we have a nifty two part cover that will do short and long lenses for only €45.00. We can also have uptra lightweight covers custom made for about €99 – but the Aquatechs are , well, just better!

Am in the market for a rain cover as I nearly got a drowning lately.
Been checking out the prices etc and the Aquatechs look the thing ok but are very pricey – €260 approx. On the link above “cameras underwater” it works out about €181 + P&P.
I know about protecting the lens and camera etc but would possibly but them back in my waterproof bag when it rains !!

Looks like Barker’s have some good priced options there so…

I shoot sport most weekends (GAA, Soccer, Athletics, Rugby) and while a dedicated rain cover would be ideal, I find that a black bin bag with some strong elastic bags is very effective at keeping rain off the lens. The only downside of this ultra-cheap option is that the back of the camera body is exposed, especially when previewing and assigning voice annotations as you shoot.

“Voice Annotations” – how to do you do that?

    Brian,

It depends on your camera body. I use a canon 1d series body which allows me to record a sound file (~30sec in duration if necessary) for any previewed image. When you download the images from the card, you will see a .wav file with the same filename as the image. This is excellent when you want to identify players etc.

That’s great! I have been taking some shots of my son’s hurling team in action and this would be a great feature. However, unless I’ve missed soemthing, my 40D doesn’t have that feature.

    Brian,

I think this feature is only available on the canon 1 series and the nikon pro bodies.

    Hi Ken,
I was following the posts on the forum and realised we had not adjusted the Aquatech prices to reflect the Dollar changes lately. The Revised prices are:
Eyepieces: €35.95 (Eyepiece is required to fit the cover to the camera and anchor it in place)
    Basic sport (200mm) €89.95
    200mm €204.49
    300mm €216.59
600mm €228.69 The Offer of Free delivery for Forum members who mention this post is still valid.
(All Prices include Irish Vat of 21%)

And on some compacts. My Canon S3IS has this too. Sounds useful but i have hardly used it.
