i did this as a present for a friend, is it too overdone?
iso bloody 100.
i’m so annoyed at myself too cos i checked and double checked everything and i never thought of the bloody iso!
and it was so dark, with only window light during a very stormy morning and moving my iso up just a teeny bit would have helped immensely :( boo.this is the original:
what you think?? any tips for next time?
jb7ParticipantIt looks great to me,
especially the conversion-Maybe a bit glowy, but I’ll get over that-
and while I’m mentioning things,
a little more space behind the baby’s head might have helped the framing too-But overall, excellent picture of an intimate moment, very confidently captured-
And a very valuable present for your friend-
very good-j
summerdreamnMemberthanks, jb. that means a lot. i was just obsessing so much that missed the simple things. high expectations, anyone?
thank you. :) i hope she likes it.
jb7Participantbtw, it looks much better on a mac, in Safari-
it looks a lot darker in Firefox-Safari supports colour profiles, and this hasn’t been converted to sRGB-
so anybody on a pc has less chance of seeing what you’re looking at-Might be worth converting to sRGB, for the web-
j
paul grayParticipanti think it looks great … you have captured the connection between the parent and child ..
and i think the processing is very good like jb7 said the soft glow could maybe come down a bit ..but saying that its a very engaging shot
well done…..summerdreamnMemberyou’re right, i use a mac and safari too. would that colour profile matter much when i’m printing the photo? i wasn’t paying attention to that whole colour profile portion of a class i took :)
what should i use as a default when i’m taking pictures? i use a(sRGB) as oppossed to (AdobeRGB)
thanks!
summerdreamnMemberthis is another one from the same session and i did like 2 minute fix on iphoto and i’ll play around with it more on cs3 cos i think it’s a bit overdone as well. i decreased saturation and blurred the edges and and the white matte.
is it too washed out?
Alan RossiterParticipantYeah, I like the first image. Anyone would be happy with it. From a photography perspective though I’d try to tone down the highlights on the shoulder. I see three things – the child as the main focus, the parents view and the shoulder. But, that’s a critical eye which no self respecting parent would even consider. I’d be thrilled with receiving the mono version.
Alan.
RobMemberIt’s gorgeous, not without flaws, but nonetheless gorgeous.
It’s all about the moment, and you nailed that. I’d be chuffed
with it if it were mine…Rob.

really like the first one and the baby is beautiful, I bet her mum loves them.Soda
plainoldmeMemberI think it’s great I really enjoyed the softness of the b/w image I think it supports the delicacy of the moment a lot. You did a great job, and I’m sue they will be extremely proud if it. The second one I’, not so fond of. Maybe its just a personal thing but I think the border is much too harsh, you could maybe try to blend it in a bit more?
Anyway, really great job. And the baby is adorable :)
summerdreamnMemberthanks guys :) i’m not going with the second one either, not too happy with the conversion on it but will play around a bit more.
AnonymousParticipantHiya
First well done you nailed the connection between mother & Child! As regards the lighting yep a higher ISO whould have done the trick and maybe even with the grain it might help, the crop is a little tight for me buts that just subjective to the viewer. I reallly love these portarits and especially check out a photographer Lori Nordstrom based in LA whom does exactly this sort of thing.
BenBrickeeParticipant1&3 for me, If I where one of the parents I would be showing these off.
