Lens recommendations for D400

New to Digital Photography and looking for advice please.

I got the 400d camera and opted for the 60mm macro kit, I want to take closeups and want to use it with a 50mm 1.8, which I already have for portraits.

I also want a landscape lens and a zoom that will bring far away objects closer (guess that’s what zooma do!). I’m on a budget and hoping to spend as little as possibkle for now but need the extra 2 lenses.

    I’m considering a sigma 70-300 apo and either a canon 28mm 2.8 or sigma15-50 3.5-5.6 DC. Any advice/recommendations?

i went for the sigma apo 70-300 and a sigma 17-70, they have been doing well for me. Just a little confused did you get a Nikon D400 or a Canon EOS 400d?

The Sigma 70-300 APO is great for the money. Some users on here have posted some stunning shots taken with it.

For what its worth – a zoom is any lens that changes focal length. I think you are looking for a telephoto lens. You can have both a wide angle zoom, and a telephoto zoom. The alternative is a ‘prime’ lens, like your 50mm, or 60mm macro.

For landscape – I’d look at a wider lens like the Sigma 10-20. 28mm is not wide on a 400D – in fact its eqv to 45mm which is considered a ‘normal’ lens. The Sigma 15-30 is designed for flim cameras – consequently it is big and heavy, and also isn’t as wide. I think the 10-20 is cheaper as well.

The 17-70 Sander has mentioned is reportedly a good lens too. It covers a very useful focal length. But it is not wide enough as a dedicated landscape lens. It depends what you want to shoot – what will you hope to be shooting?

    Thanks for the replies guys.
    Its a Canon.
In theory, I hope to shoot a mixture. I feel I’m ojk for portraits with the 50mm and 60mm and for “not-so-close” macros with the 60mm. I like the idea of landscapes where the clouds seem to”hang” like 3D, and where moving water blurs. I am also hoping to get some birds/wildlife from a distance. I’m trying to spend as little as possible so the landscape lens might have to wait. Any further help appreciated. Thnaks guys

Yeah the 70-300 and a 10-20 should do the trick. THe 10-20 will give you big skys and great foreground. And the 50mm and 60mm will cover some of the inbetween.
