Buying Online

EndlessParticipant
I’m looking to buy two new lenses for my camera
These are available for order in my local camera shop but I have seen them on ebay for cheaper
Is it risky ordering them on ebay? (any tips)
Or
If anyone knows reliable sites it would be greatly appreciated
guthrijParticipantI have bought al kinds of stuff on eBay and have also sold several high end cameras and guitars. I have never had an unsatisfactory transaction either as a buyer or a seller. That does not mean there are not some bad guys out there. If someone is trying to sell a high end lens or camera and start the aucton at a low price; be cautious; it’s probably a scam. There are few real bargains on eBay but there are some good deals. There’s guy with an eBay name “kerso” operating out of Scotland. He is very reliable. You should be aware, though, that most of the new gear involves stuff imported from the US or far East so there could be warranty issues if you have a problem. Personally, I take the risk because the savings are very attractive compared to Irish prices.
paulParticipantI buy a lot of stuff on ebay from kea-photo store. Great prices and 100% positive feedback.
MikkaParticipantHave a look at http://www.parkcameras.com UK prices working out cheaper than Euro at the moment and only a little bit more expensive than USD after you add the vat and excise to USD prices and warranty should not be a problem.
They also have two shops not too far from Gatwick should you be over in that neck of the woods (bear in mind that the cost of two lenses and return flights will also end up cheaper than most if not all of the shops here)!!
http://www.7dayshop.com are also worth looking at as well..MikkaEndlessParticipantThanks had a look around at the sites and they do look a bit cheaper thanks!!!
Will have to check out the shop near gatwick will be there in May might pick up something!
Thanks
markcapilitanParticipantHave to say I’m an avid buying from new york & hong kong occasionally – but UK prices are sweet at the moment and much less hassle. Great deals from calumet if you’re a canon buyer because of the cash back.
SwordieMemberEndlessParticipantI have found the lenses I want at reasonable prices but now I am a bit confused some sites say the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS is compatible with the EOS 400D but then one or two say it is not can someone tell me if it is compatible before I part with my money
MartinOCParticipantI have that lens and a 400D, they work fine together. I can’t imagine why they say this. If you post a link I can double check it.
I don’t personally know any EF lens that doesn’t work across the range. There are lenses which are marked “EF-S” which don’t work with all Canon EOS cameras, but they do work with 300/350/400/450D and 20/30/40D cameras. They are built especially for these smaller sensor cameras.
JMcLParticipantI’ve bought some stuff on EBay from Ian Kerr. He’s based in Scotland, and will knock off a few more quid if you send him an email on kerso1123msn.com. Couple of advantages to this, sterling is down the toilet at the moment, so there’s a very decent exchange rate (though this isn’t much use if you’re up north), shipping is a lot cheaper than the HK sellers, and since it’s an EU transaction, there’s no risk of duty/VAT, and even better, the Canon rebates will work.
