Try and forget about the clouds…

Nice John, tonemapped I take it?. As you say try and forget about the clouds, If they the bright parts were burned in a little, It would let my eye concentrate on the Machine more. Definitly worth a bit more processing. Whats it like in colour?

It’s savage in colour Sean, but the conversion is too obvious.

When converted to B+W people tend to get less uptight about the fact that it’s HDR/TM.

I’ll go back and try and re-work the bright spots in the sky at some stage.

    Cheers

I like it. But I am a construction equipment nut. Would like to see the sky reworked when you get around to it. Nacho Fruitrollup Lay’s potatochip Fan. (Thought I would play too) Lack of sleep can get to you

Here’s the colour Sean. I know the effect that you were hoping for, but as I said in our PM, this was HDR-TM with a view to converting to B+W so not quite the effect I think you were hoping for. I kept this conversion quite natural as far as HDR-TM goes.

That being said, I have quite a few of these shots, so I might post something at some stage that has a little bit more of that look I think I know you are looking for.

    I still prefer the B+W

I think I prefer the colour version with this shot. Don’t think the bw version does enough justice to the contrast in the picture. Colour version being my favourite, the burned clouds are probably more distracting in the colour though. Worth another visit in ps as has been suggested.

    Nice shot

ps. Did you add the vignette. I like the way its only really apparent in the sky.

Yeah , as you say it was done for conv, and the mono works better, But im sure if you did it for the colour it would be a different story.

Maybe we will see one shortly  .

OK.. I better do like Thorsten says and tell the tale to justify a badly taken photo:

Having spent the past 2 days confined to the house I decided to get up off me arse today and head up to a MotoCross event 10 mins up the road from me in Ferns.

I was shooting away and between races I had a bit of spare time to walk around the track. Then I came upon the contraption pictured so I said I’ll have a few of this. Unfortunatley I was shooting directly into a very high and strong sun (thus the burnt out sky) and I wasn’t really kitted out for it camera wise. The cloud was quiet strange because whilst very white around the edges it was very grey in the centre.

The conversion is basically 5 exposures of one RAW file (hoped it would sort the sky out for me). HDR-TM. Then a conversion to mono with the CS3 B+W tool. No vignetting added. It was a 5 min job… the usual. I start to loose interest when it comes to dealing with intricate details like bits of sky and cloning and all that lower level details stuff.

    Still awake?
