Gorey 3-day cycle race
-
Alan RossiterParticipant
A dormant passion of mine – cycling. This is the Gorey 3-day cycle race – 4 stages over 3 days. The race was run at it’s fastest average speed on the first day with speeds in excess of 50mph being recorded in the tail wind. These images were taken around the circuit at Gorey. Some 200 cyclists take part in this race, some from abroad. One of my former club mates came in 6th yesterday, another came in 10th today and is lying 8th overall. Not bad for a 42 year old!
The 42 year old on the front. He doesn’t always make this face :?
The current race leader, Phil Lavery, on the front coming up Craanfort hill.
Race leader and 2nd place on stage 3 Phil Lavery. All cyclists are posers – don’t let ANYONE tell you different!!
Alan.
lousyParticipantGreat set Alan, sharp as a pin as per.
I like the DOF including the two groups.Pat
Alan RossiterParticipantCheers Pat. It’s easier than them feckin’ trial bikes.
Nice to see you getting a few good shots today too. Pity I couldn’t hang around.
Alan.
nfl-fanParticipantYep, some good stuff there. The Depth of Field does a nice job of seperating the leaders from the pack. I can feel the pain on that Craanfort hill… reminds me of a couple of years back when I reckoned I could take the Milehouse hill… and failed miserably, never to ride a bike again.
Did you reckon you could have togged out and given these boys a run for their money?
Alan RossiterParticipantDid you reckon you could have togged out and given these boys a run for their money?
Hell, yeah 8) ! There’s guys in this bunch that I used to beat easily. Unfortunately I’m the wrong side of 15st and what used to be a 6-pack is now a flagon. Still, it made me itchy today to get the carbon fibre cleaned up again. But the feckin’ hills…
Alan.
nfl-fanParticipantI feel a Rocky VI sort of moment coming… “Wonka comes out of retirement to prove he still has what it takes… Rossiter Rides Again”
Brian_CParticipantLovely shots Alan. The first one is class. There’s a fair bit of uninteresting road in the foreground of the 3rd.
Maybe I’ll be joining ya next year…… wha?
RobMemberNot a huge sports fan, I’ll admit, but I really like the first two here
Alan, the second in particular on account of both groups being
complete and in shot without any distractions. Well separated with
the shallow depth of field too, and your composition works really
well with the road centre markings running from the corner.
Nice work there…Rob.
Alan RossiterParticipantCheers folks.
Brian – I thought about the road in the third but removing it removes the perspective, or slope of the road. I wanted to preserve the incline as best I could. As for next year – I started this 2 years ago and got blown out the back like a fart from a speedboat in Hacketstown. It bugs me but I’l admit defeat at this stage. An 8th place on the afternoon stage many moons ago will do for now! Unless…unless you mean with a camera!!
Rob – thanks for the feedback. It’s easy for sports fans, or particular sports fans to get lost in the activity in an image. An independant eye is always welcome as it is in the end an exercise in photography!
Alan.
jessthespringerParticipantLike that first shot Alan… Bit of a story in it, I’d say he didn’t stay away for too long?
Can you see yourself back on a bike? MTB is a lot more forgiving I think, way more fun too. I still havn’t got a bike yet.
jb7ParticipantThey’re great Alan-
a good set-
Particularly like the last, and 2,3 & 4-However, I’m sure the man in the first is going to like his more than all the others combined…
j
Alan RossiterParticipantThanks Sinead, Joseph.
The guy in the front – I’ve been there many a time. You get a burst of energy – you go off the front of the bunch…you meet a hill…your lungs come up your throat…you’ve put in too much effort to just give up…you’ve put in too much effort to keep going…you hang on there for dear life…and then put it down to experience, again. I’ve loads more that cyclists would appreciate but as with a return comment to Rob this is a photographic site and I’d rather keep it to photographs with my perceptions of merit rather than record shots.
Thanks folks.
Alan.
ExpresbroParticipantGreat set of shots Alan..really enjoyed looking at them. Brings me back to when I used to religiously watch Le Tour every year on Euro Sport. Strictly armchair mind…none of that energy sapping work for me…heheh!!
Wouldn’t mind travelling to France some year and catching a mountain stage of the tour..such are dreams made of.
Kinda lost interest a few years ago anyway when drugs became more of a story that the cycling itself.
But it’s a sport that lends itself well to photography I think…must try and get down to one of the cycling events in the park this year… :D
ossie13ParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantHowever, I’m sure the man in the first is going to like his more than all the others combined…
I guess so Joseph. The club that he rides for http://www.cyclinglucan.com have put it on their home page with accreditation. I offered it to the rider himself but they requested to to use it themselves.
Thanks for all the comments.
Alan.
