Hi Guys, Enjoyed the trip to Ferns with Lousey, Still struggling a bit with the new 40D, slowly getting there. Didn’t try any sophisticated techniques, glad to get a few reasonably decent shots. Mike
lousyParticipant#3 by a country mile, the concentration in the eyes is great and you did well to
capture that.
Very good effort mick on all the set
but as I said #3 for me.Well done.Pat
edit;
ps … it’s lousy…. without the ‘e’ :wink:DeeboParticipantHi Mike
2nd shot for me. It might be worth trying some selective sharpening to enhance theseDee
wexkel11MemberThanks guys for your comments. I did sharpen this image as much as I could, before it started to get halos etc. The image just isn’t as good as I’d like it to be, down to my inexperience with camera. I probably should have got in nearer to the subjects. But, with speed and height these guys were travelling I passed on that option, besides I wasn’t wearing my “browne trousers”.
p.s. As to the lousey without the ‘e’, in the dim and distant past I nearly drove my English teacher mad with my spellings, it was long before spellchecks. Oh by the way it’s concentration with a ‘c’ not an ‘s’, :D “Gotcha”. Mike

Well done Mick, I have considered myself ‘got’ ….ye b*&%$£s

joe_elwayParticipantNice work for your first attempt. That guy int he second shot was in some of my interesting shots. He worked the cameras nicely.
Big FellaParticipantGreat set of shots Mike, #3 is my fav as well, pin sharp. Well done.
Stephen.
wexkel11MemberHi Aidan, Thanks for your comments and you advice and help was greatly appreciated on the day. Myself and Lousy had a post mortem on the Moto X last night. Lousy had a load of crackin’ shots, sharp as tacks. Most of mine were just OK. We came to the conclusion that MotoX cross probably wasn’t the easiest subject to be learning on. Thanks Stephen for your kind comments. Mike
joe_elwayParticipantI reckon it’s a great place to practice. Lots of subjects that keep on flying past you. Opportunities to try:
– People
– reportage
– capturing motion (fast shutter speed)
– freezing motion (panning with slow shutter speed)The changes in light and the different techniques force you to learn about aperture, shutter speed, ISO and camera holding technique. As Pat saw – a monopod is useless at Motocross. He got sharp results without it.
Just go in thinking that you’re not focusing on getting a shot, just learning and practicing. Try something diferrent each time to see if it improves or worsens the results. Loads of time there to try things and learn. Some of the techniques you’ll learn here apply to other scenarios, e.g. wildlife.
I’m going to the event again in May if the schedule isn’t clashing with other stuff. It might be an opportunity for a meetup.
