Child Photography Forms and Pricing etc.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry if this topic has been covered before but I couldn’t find it when I did a search.

I’m thinking of maybe (just maybe!) doing some photography at my niece’s creche and I was wondering what sort of a model release form I’d have to get signed by the parents and also the laws surrounding this.
I have a feeling it might be a bit too big of an apple for me to bite as an actual long-term form of work but I’d like to learn about that’s involved regardless.

Also if anyone has any advice on what to charge for this sort of thing?
Obviously if I go for the creche I’d be maybe doing 20+ kids so is there a bulk price i should consider?

Chances are I might just do this one creche and leave it at that but I’d like to do it right and come across as professional as possible.

    Thanks,
    Pihjin.

    hi,

i came across this website that might help, http://www.onlineportraits.net/index.html. it’s a UK website and they seem to offer a 15% commission but i don’t know if that’s standard here.

this is a very good thread as well and some of the info may apply to you… https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=14565

at my daughter’s creche, we just got a letter advising that the photographer was coming at a certain date and to specify if we did not want her photo taken. a week after picture day, we got a 5×7 photo which we could choose to buy for €15 or just return so there was no pressure to buy.

hope that helps, i’d be very interested as to what people know about the laws surrounding this cos i recently asked about garda clearance which is standard in the UK but doesn’t seem to be the norm here just yet.

Yes I noticed the Portfolio Model Release thread but I was wondering if anyone might have had something relating more to child photography as the parents will have to fill the form out.

Also I’m having a read through the School Photos thread so I might pm KPM about this too.

I’ve never had anyone fill out a release in my life so far (I’ve never done something like this) but I really feel if I do this job I need to cover my back.
Insurance etc. will not be a problem.

    Thanks BM

well, when i was inquiring about the model release, thorsten mentioned something about terms and conditions of your photography and it was more relevant to what i was thinking of in my situation.

    here’s an example from a website http://www.theimagefile.com/web/kidmobile/terms_and_conditions.html

something like this covers use for your portfolio and your rights to copyright
    Display
Kidmobile Limited may display any photographs included in this contract in his/her studio, portfolio, literature, display areas, exhibitions, competitions, advertising or slide shows.

    Copyright
Any images or copies of images whether stored digitally or otherwise and any computer program including any source or object code, computer files or printed documentation relating to such images are protected by the Copyright and Design Act 1988. It is contrary to the Act to copy or allow to be copied photographically/electronically or by any other means an image created as part of this contract without the permission of Kidmobile Limited in writing.
