Hourly Rate

Hi, I really do need information and help with this. By way of chance I was able to display some of my photographs from a fashion show and also help someone who has turned out to be more important than I realised, (part of a major marketing company). I did ask this person whenever there were upcoming events would they let me know, I received a favourable response. My problem is they also asked what my hourly rate is? I understand this maybe not my only problem so please feel free to offer any advice which you believe is or might be relevant and useful. Thank you.
pixelmadnessMemberif it is commerical work that you are doing id say your best bet is to work out your daily rate ie How much do you think your worth, your time , your skill , your ability, travel time , processing time, returning your work to them this al takes valuable time from other things and someone needs to pay for it.
im always weary of someone that askes for an hr rate. for instance today i was asked to do some childrens portraits there was no mention of money or time just that they wanted me to do them and that they did not want a studio type shot
like when people say sure it only takes 250th of a second, flash sync speed lol to take a portrait why do they cost so much
when i go to the doctor he charges me 70 quid for less than five minutes.. well of course im paying for his experience and knowledge people should expect no less when they hire yourandomwayMemberThere was a similar thread before, and I can agree with the idea, that hourly rate is only good for the cutomers. Most of the work consists of editing, transporting, printing, etc. Quote them with a half-day rate if it’s only 2hrs shooting… you will still work about 5 hours with transport and post-processing.

Do they want to employ you or do they just want you to produce and provide them with some images, so as they can use them.
That’s the big question !LGWParticipant
