Irish Superbike Racing – Mondello Park April 12th

BeamCatcherParticipant
Hi folks! So I finally got my lens back from repair with Canon! Never thought I’d see it again.
Anyhow… I wanted to put it to the test, so I popped over to Mondello Park yesterday.
-My first time there… WOW!!! What a FANTASTIC place if you are petrol head at any degree! ;-)
Here are 4 shots from they day… and I can honestly say: Respect to photographers who do that for a living!!!
It was not as easy as I thought it might be when looking at posters and bike magazines, and I don’t think I pulled it off… but what a fun day!!!!!
I will indeed go back!!!
Cheers… and please do feel free to C&C.
SodafarlMemberIvar I think you pulled it off alright especialy in 1,2 and 4 . If there had been a bit more space in front in 3 I think it would have improved it, but then what would I know as I have never even tried thse type of shots  but I do think you have a very nice set of pictures.
Soda
mgstParticipantAgree with Soda you defo pulled this off these are pin sharp and colours are spot on.
Mick
paulParticipantBig FellaParticipantGood set Ivar, you done very well. Good clear faces inside the helmet always makes these type of shots. Well donw.
Stephen.
nfl-fanParticipantGreat set, super sharp. #3 would be my pic but I’m not sure about the composition.. would’ve prefered to have seen more space to ride into. #4 is a cracker too.
What cam/lens did you use?
BeamCatcherParticipantThanking for your comments. I use Canon 40D + 70-200 f/2.8L IS, and the shots above are all at 100 ISO as far as I remember. I actually did find one after I uploaded these which I really was happy with, and I will upload it once I am back home again.
I was in an area where I wasn’t supposed to be, and the Mondello team was EXTREEMLY pollite, understanding and helpful once we discovered the bummer. I also understand I should try and get some kind of liability insurance.
Does anyone know how much a liability insurance would be, and where I can get one?
Thanking folks, and speak later! ;-)
Ivar
RobMemberNot a lot wrong with this set Ivar. Pretty good work for a first
attempt I’d say; don’t reckon anyone could get better first time
around. The sidecar shot is a cracker and outright winner for me
here; in spite of the tyre wall being the same colour as the helmet
and leathers, I reckon there’s more than enough separation in tones
for this to make a fine print…Good work.
Rob.
BeamCatcherParticipantBack home again…
Tanks Rob! You know… I just had such a b***** good fun doing some stuff completely out on deep waters! :-)
I quite like the side car as well, and perhaps that was due to the fact that I haven’t seen them up close before. Amazing speed on them!!!!
Oh well… as said I did find one which I actually quite like myself… so here I go!
See ya all later! ;-)
Ivar
nfl-fanParticipantCrikey… that most recent one you posted is even better again… at 1920×1200 the clarity is amazing. You must have been well close to the track?
Again, nice work.
kenmurphyParticipantHe was too close in an area that he was not supposed to be. Putting both himself and the Marshalls at risk.
There is a reason that there is media passes given out and an indemnity form signed.
Going out on to a live race track without ever been there before is a very foolish thing to do.
No prior experience on a live track = no idea of the dynamics of a bike crashing and the direction and speed that a crashing bike takes.
Having marshaled for a number of years prior to turning to photography I do fully know the argument that I am making.
nfl-fanParticipantBeamCatcherParticipantI did in fact ask the gentleman at the main gate if I could walk where ever, and he told me indeed I could. Little did I know he ONLY meant in the paddock area and not all the way at the back where I could go out on the track. Besides when it was open, there were a bunch of folks there, so I assumed (very foolishly I have no problem seeing in aftermath) it was ok to be there.
But yes I do have to agree fully with what Ken is saying… foolish and stupid and the lesson was learned.
Let it also be said that the gentleman who came over and assisted me with waiting until the race was over, in addition to being concerned for me, also was very polite and helpful. -He explained same as Ken, and lastly… same did Mr. Logan did when I met him after the race. It was a genuine mishap, and the best that came out of it for me, was that I got even more keen on understanding marshaling as well as supporting motor-sport in Ireland.
Ken: I was looking around yesterday to see where I could get in touch with Mr. Logan, to pass over some half decent shot to him and the team as a gesture from my little happening. If you have a clever email / contact I would really appreciate a PM from you.
Cheers gents.. and for the record… I will only take more shots… but from regulated areas!
Ivar :-)
BeamCatcherParticipantBrendan LennonParticipantClass shots, better than anything i’ve seen from the day!
Hard to nail the sharpness with those shutter speeds and anything larger than your typical 400px internet thumbnail tends to show up any shortcomings in technique, didn’t seem to be anything dangerous about where you were positioned, basically on the inside of a corner (turn4?) and a lot less likely to be hit than *cough some lads
You should apply to mondello for a press-pass, start getting photos published as shots like those are great for promoting the sport, few of my pics from the day here, try the road racing too, turn up early as it’s hard to get a good spot with all the spectators.
