Hi Guys, Got up the Wicklow Mountains yesterday, great weather except for the heavy cloud…well when I was shooting anyway. I know the shadows are heavy, but comments appreciated. Thanks.

    hi Wexsnap.

I like the middle shot above. There’s a real feeling of vastness aruond the ruins. If there was some way to bump the contrast of that structure a little more maybe? I think it would help the image

OOh! I was in the Wicklow mountains yesterday too.
We got lost looking for laragh and went through some part of the Sally gap … I think. You’ve captured it brilliantly. I love the first one.
Plan to go up there again soon and shoot it properly.

I like the second image. The first one is a bit oversaturated and too contrasty to my taste. I think, that our taste is getting slightly distorted by looking at all these high-contrast images on the net… when printed, a lower contrast image can look just as amazing, and you get much more detail in the shadows and highlights.

The problem is more likely the timing, not the post-processing or anything like that. Midday light is useless for colour landscape photography (there are exceptions of course) I love the light in the mornings in Wicklow. I walked up to Malin-head on Sunday, too. Lied in the grass, enjoyed the sunshine and the view on the sea. It’s all great until 9 o’clock, when the first tourist groups appear talking loudly and with a barking dog…

Beautiful brown black in the middle phot, I think it looks better if you crop the sky out …..
