Gig – Camera options?

Howdy all.
I’m heading to a gig the week after next and I’d love to bring the camera along for a few snaps (d80). I usually have no hassle bringing it to the smaller venues and working away til my hearts content, as the security are fairly laid back and they’re not too fussy about pictures and that.
However, Im heading to the Ambasador and I was just wondering, if there’s a stricter door policy about cameras there, what are my options? I don’t want to miss the gig, because they won’t allow me in with the bag. But I’d love to get a few shots out of it too.
Anyone got any suggestions or experience here?
Should I just leave it at home?

Wouldn’t mind bringing my gear along to Metallica later on in the year, emailed MCD, an surprise surprise, no response.

Didn’t know they were playing thanks for that, must get my ticket have seen them about 6 times, they rock:-)

Marlay Parkcould be wrong, but i believe MCD issue approved photographers with press passes. not sure if they pay for them or what. so if you do get in with your camera, you may find the irish times photographer etc not too happy :D
Well knowing that bands record on going after fans who download their music I’d be very surprised if they weren’t every bit as diligent in protecting their image as well.
They’ll probably have the lawyers typing the documents as you snap away…hehehe!!
I’d be extremely surprised if cameras are allowed to be honest.

yup they do, but can be obtained easily enough if ya ask the band/promotors
Not strictly true, friend of mine was given a pass by a band he knew for a gig of theirs in dublin castle, when he got there the pass was taken off him as it hadnt been issued by the promoters (was a Heiniken Green Energy thing so I don’t know?).
not only that, they took his battery packs as well and told them he could pick them up after the gig :?With regard to the Ambassador they’re pretty strict on bringing things in with you, all bags and any kind of devices other than phones and snapshot camera’s you’re usually told you can’t bring them in. It’s more the security than anything else, cause the manager in the Ambassador is dead sound, but he isn’t really there most of the time. Well….not out with the rest of them anyway.

Itwas hilariou the last time. It was like watching Spinal Tap at some stages – He jumped off the speakers, headfirst into the guitarist, he nailed himself in the face with the mic and narrowly missed some poor eejit at the front with the same trick. Im raging I didnt bring the camera that night!Yeah, they’re not everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve Dirty Pretty Things tickets too for the end of the month there too, so I was hoping I could bring it along to both. Ah, well!
If worst comes to worst, and they only take battery packs off you, I’ll tuck one into the sock! :D
I think that would work in every venue BUT the ambassador :lol:
I;ve two gigs lined up for RDS Simmonscourt, never been to gigs there but I would imagine thay’d be fairly strict on the photie-taking. Will really have to check that out.
i think in the ambassador you’d get stung, they enforce the 3 song rule hard there whenever i shoot. security all over ya afterwards, camera to be put away in storage bla bla. so if they spot a dslr in the crowd ya might be spotted with the torch and booted out, just a heads up, maybe stall it back near the merch and zoom, that’d be your best bet

The gig was cancelled anyway! One of the band members broke his leg! Considered bringing my older camera along and acing the innocent if/when confronted. I’ll take it on board for the next one anyway. Will have to find someone decent in the Buton Factory soon. Just got my hands on a 50mm f1.8 today. Having great fun with it!
