Dunseverick and Gid Point
-
andy mcinroyParticipant
Another Thursday evening on the north antrim coast.
I wasn’t awarded a light display like last week but I came home with a couple of the area around Dunseverick Harbour.

JMcLParticipantThe first is a nice image, but I don’t really find much to hold my interest Andy. I think there’s just too much water in the foreground.
The lines and cool tones of the second are lovely however, the eye is led around and back into the image, and I’d say it’d look great printed large and hung

BMParticipantYou seem to be working on a new style: stong lines bisecting the picture or providing a “fragmented” image.
The line of rocks across the first is an interesting feature, with Fair Head so prominent in the background. The sky is the same powerful component you normally provide, however it’s almost as if the image is disjointed – perhaps I am expecting to see more of a comnnection between the horizon (in this case teh band of rocks), the sky and teh reflection of the sun. That said, perhaps a diversion from teh norm is a good thing: I keep coming back to this one and there is something appealing in it overall – perhaps the mystical haze of Fair Head (it is Fair Head, isn’t it?).
The tones and the sky in the second are very soothing and I really like the way the tectures of the sea and the concrete of the peir differ. Very interesting to have the buoy bang on centre of the shot. However, I find the spire a bit distracting: I keep looking up to teh sky to see what it is pointing at!
All in all, surprisingly good, given the (relatively) poor conditions.
StevenHannaMemberI think I prefer the 2nd one Andy, although perhaps I would have tried composing so that the spire thing was centrally positioned between the gap in the rocks. I don’t want you thinking I’m nitpicking! lol I really like the subtle colours in the sky & the contrast between the pier and the smooth water. You’ve done a really good job under the lighting conditions you were given.

andy mcinroyParticipantThanks guys,
Brian, as always your detailed critique is much appreciated. The headland you can see is Bengore Head to the west of Dunseverick. Yes, you don’t get a much more obvious lead in than a dirty great arrow. It doesn’t point quite where I want the viewer to be looking though.
Steven, thanks for that feedback. I might well return and have another look at the possibilities for the composition.
Cheers
AndyPitmaticMemberI like the second best more eloquently described already however you could always go back with a step ladder and compose the shot so the arrow poited at the bouy like some surreal spot the bouy contest?
