You are killing me, working late at the office (well 5 min web break), and no food to be had…and see this
Its a great photo, too good for my current hunger.

    Oh, Denverdoll is back.

I have a few suggestions, just to help your improvement. I like the look of the bread and the warmth of the picture. I feel that the depth of field is too shallow though… the egg in the further end is out of focus. I think that the other half of the egg in the foreground is just ruining the beautiful scene, it must have tasted wonderful, but it is smashed and it’s not looking good. The spice on the eggs is a very nice touch, but it could be sprinkled in a more conscious way. The composition looks good, but I feel that the food wasn’t made for photography, it was made to eat…

… I hope I wasn’t too negative, I just think that you need critique to get better results.

Have you tried looking at pictures in magazines, and trying to reproduce them? That would be a good way to learn…

Hope to see more of these!

Hi Denverdoll, you sure know how to cook eggs I know plenty of professional chefs who can’t cook eggs that well!!
The pic makes you hungry which is the main aim of any food image, a 400mm lens will help with getting the depth of field right, you have to get well back from the food and let a good lens get in close. The main problem with food pics is that you have a very short amount of time before the food deteriorates.

And you have a very short time, before the kids decide that they can’t take it any more and eat your subject :) Are you using an electric fence around the kitchen when working on these photos?

Daithi~~that is such a nice thing to say..it seem like there is such a conversation over what makes good food photography and I am glad to hear all imput. Sort of seems like there is a professional conventional mindset and then a more emotional evisceral mindset. I hope to appeal to both soon.Thak you so much.

hehehe~at Randonway..I am not back..this was my first ever food photo in this forum. I think back in May. All your advice still stands helpful though. I haven’t come very far and that is useful critique.
Thanks a mil! I just haven’t been compelled lately…you know how every once in a while you just lose the passion..or in this case…the appetite

Oscar~~thanks so much for those kind words. I love love love to cook and would choose chef over photographer as dream career..but I think a combination of both is probably as good as it gets. So delighted to see your work here!

I was trying to decide if eggs are better close up or not so I put a few together for comparisons. I think close up works as the white tends to keep the focus soft.
