That’s a really lovely photo. Would love to see a version where the young girl was facing the camera.

i ADORE this! it is so gorgeous. and i don’t think the fact that she’s not facing the camera detracts from it.

we’re in the same mind anyway, taking advantage of the dandelions, here’s one of mine from the weekend:

unfortunately, this was the state our front lawn was in…

Well for me Mick this is one of your better ones, and that’s not to say that your other images are bad but I just don’t get them.
That being said, I think this image is great for the sentiment to it and the use of DOF, it’s all very simple but effective..

Like what Pat just said, Mick. This toning in this situation gives the image a life of its own. It’s a hard one to explain, but I do like it.

Yep, this is really class. Took something similar of the son recently, back to the camera skipping up a beach towards the dunes.

As a personal preference I’d like to see a different crop allowing more breadth to the LHS to accentuate the space ie. a small child in a much larger field.

Fantastic shot… Love the overall effect of the DOF and colours are right for me… Lovely stuff

Yes, beautiful photo. Could have walked straight out of a children’s clothing catalogue.

Maybe in contrast with what Lousy and Irishwonkafan say, I think your Irishcoastdocumentaryphotos are nine out of ten times a lot stronger, more original and as a serie exceptional. How long and how many photos will it take before you’ve gone all around the island?

I always wondered what it was that you farmed-

I’ll be concurring with the rest-
it absolutely works showing this from the back too-
the little girl off on her mission-

well done Mick, lovely, fun shot.

The only thing I can see that might inprove it is to zap out the 4-5 little white flecks on the green background.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
I tend to leave to 70-200 on f2.8 and just let the shutter speed take care of itself.
Used to do the same with the 24-70, but I’ve started leaving that at f8.
    I’m so damned lazy ;)

Summerdreamn: lovely shot, and yeah, gotta love wild grass and flowers as a setting. Love the kid’s hat ;)
Our lawn used be like that till last year when we finally got around to rotovating it and seeding it proper.
We live on a farm though, so there’s plenty of places for grass to go wild.

Vorizz: Much appreciated, thanks. I’m just photographing the Dublin coastline, not the whole island…that’d be mad!
Hope to do an initial batch of 250 by the year’s end and then narrow it down to 100 or so.

Wayne: sometimes I post techniques but not all the time.
Took me a month to figure this one out through trial and error so I’m loath to do so in detail just yet.
It’s pretty much a black and white conversion technique I’ve used with a duplicate image layer on top set to ‘screen’ at 40-50%.
Then some sharpening bits after that.

    Stunning shot.

I love the tone of it. I must try the ‘screen’ technique.
