Hi
maybe anybody could help me. I took some photos on fashion show in Cork. After show manager came to me and he said i cannot use these photos and cannot put them into my website because “girls has been paid for that”. I’m new in Irleland but europan law doesn’t say anything about that situation. I’m just wondering- he lie or not?
please help me
ChrissharnahwsMemberHi……
I think the guy is right, I don`t think you can put these on your website because another website or magazine might have the sole rights to the fashion show, and by you posting these on your website it could cause trouble for the management and for yourself…..randomwayMemberI would do as the show manager says and not use the photos. Generally you need permit to shoot events and it is ethical to ask if you can shoot or not at the first place.
It is not just about legal rights, it is respecting their work and investment into the show.
photofactorymobiMemberbut if its public show i don’t understand why i couldn’t put these photos? many people took pictures over there. But i need to prove somwhere in Irish Law -that’s important for me. So I can feel like in prison. By the way manager of this shopping centre was asking me for photos and manager told me about all event so i’m confused
1 – respect their work ect.- if show is public, for everyone i think i’m right
2- these photos is only my work and i’d like to show my worksharnahwsMemberSomeone else might have been hired to shoot the fashion show, and I`m sure the management has the right to refusal.
It would be disrespectful to post these on your website even after you`v been asked not to.
I`m not trying to be rude, but I do understand where the manager is coming from.
I don`t know what country you are from but it doesn`t always come down to law, but just common courtesy.MarkKeymasterI guess the fashion show was for the public, but the shopping centre is private property.
paulParticipantYou took the photos on private property, so the management have the right to put any conditions they wish on your taking and use of photos, unless agreed prior to the shoot.
Even though the show was public, you would require permission to shoot and use the images.
So, they are correct.
photofactorymobiMember2 words for this discussion. Shopping centre is public place and if anybody would like to stop me should say everything just before session. The way like that is bit from stone age. For example You got fashion show in Italy. How many photographers can shoot? Everyone and does not matter if they are freelance or acreditied

Actually, no, if you check your facts carefully, you’ll find that shopping centres and the property they are on are in fact private property and the owners can place whatever restrictions they wish on those entering the property. One of those conditions is that you are not allowed take photographs and most shopping centres do not allow photography of or in their premises. If you break the conditions of entry, then you are effectively trespassing and you can be rightfully ejected or, worse still, prosecuted for committing a crime. Nothing stone age about that and I think you’ll find it’s the same in most EU countries

Same thing here, but at the end of the day it all depends on the conditions in place at each event. Some fashion shows might want as much coverage as possible, others may wish to control distribution of images.

A shopping centre is NOT a public place. A shopping centre is private property with public access. Legally very different. A shopping centre has the right to put any conditions they like on entry, what stores are there, what can be sold, what you can bring in/out, etc.
All photographers at fashion shows are accredited with the the organiser/promoter, freelance or press photographers. The organiser/promoter issues press access and even then may also put conditions on the use of images.
