Wireless with a Sigma DG 530 Super

Just bought a Sigma DG530 Super today after I saw the fun of off camera flash while on assignment in my placement. My mentor was using a 1D with a 580ex speedlight and I was holding it off camera to the side as he shot. The shots were great due to the side lighting that you wouldn’t get with pop up flash or on camera external flash. Couldn’t afford the speedlight although i did find a 430ex for only a tenner more than the Sigma, tried to get a refund but the feckers wouldn’t give me one! but that’s another story cuz i’m stuck with the Sigma.

Aaaaaanyhoo i want to try off camera wireless flash and the Sigma does it. However i have to trigger it by firing the camera’s pop up flash which is useless as I then don’t get any side lighting and it just looks like a straight on flash shot. annoying.

Do Canon’s wireless transmitters work with the Sigma or is there a third party transmitter i can buy?

Or even better if I could trigger the wireless flash without setting off my on camera flash that would be great.

    Cheers

haha yeah the pop up flash firing is really annoying and totally defeats the purpose of holding the external flash off to the side or wherever it may be. been looking at the net and there’s all sorts of mentionings of pocket wizards and cactuses, sounds like a bad night on the sauce to me :D If the Canon ST-E2 worked that’d be great but i don’t think it does with sigma, should work fine with your speedlight though, ya lucky fecker :)
