First landscape shot with the 40D i spent about 15/20 mins composing the shot and trying different view points before shooting.
Two exposures…
3.2sec & 1.5sec f/25 with a focal length of 12mm to avoid the cokin filter holder.Would appreciate any comments and criticism.
Ricky.
cathaldParticipantNice job Ricky good exposure for the falling water and good colours in the sky
Maybe a little more water to the right hand side i keep wanting to see whats around the cornerCathal
RGH_PhotographyMemberYea i know if i had of remembered my blu tack i could of use a focal length of 10mm and left the filter holder in the bag lol !
DeeboParticipantLovely shot Ricky,I think its a smashing shot.
Only nitpick i have is that the middle of the coatline as it hits the skyline looks a tad dark might do with some dodgeing but it could be this laptop screen
Keep them comingDee
BrickeeParticipantRobMemberLovley colours Ricky, though I think there’s a better image in
there somewhere…The sharpness is a little poor, as though you forgot to sharpen again
after resizing for the web. And there is that dark section already mentioned
which looks like excessing burning.Compositionally, I think a crop from both left and bottom to eliminate the
smaller fall would create a more pleasing balance. I may be imagining it,
but that horizon needs just a fraction of a degree CCW rotation. These are of course just my opinions. Feel free to ignore me… ;)
Rob.
andy mcinroyParticipantThis is a very nice image and the conditions are quite different to the day I was there. I would never have recognised it but for the small waterfall. It’s quite an unusual sight in Ireland to see a river drop right into the sea like this.
I can see that the contrast was very challenging and there is something not quite right about the tones in the rocks. I presume that this was HDR?
The waterfall and sea are super although compositionally perhaps the waterfall is a little tight to the edge.
StevenHannaMemberI really like the composition in this one.
I was here a few weeks back and it really is quite a cool place.Steven
RGH_PhotographyMemberThanks all :)
Rob, yea i see what you mean about the sharpness but the full size image is grand, the rocks werent burnt, just not dodged enough
and that crop i tried before posting and didnt like the way it left the waterwall so tight to the edge, i had thought about cloning the small one away !I dont think its good enough for a print yet, but i might re-process it…. as Rob says ” I think there’s a better image in ” ;)
Steven and Andy, Yea its a great spot and one that very few people would see and its so close to the road ! I came across it by pure chance last year. I am waiting for a lot of rain before i return at low tide :)
andy mcinroyParticipantDid you see my shot of it under a big swell and a lot of water in the burn?
It shows the difference that the conditions make.

RGH_PhotographyMemberThe bottom right corner in yours is were i took the shot from and i could of went lower ! I would say when its like that you wouldnt want to get to close the rocks are very slippy down there.
