Statues in B&W or Colour?
-
MartinOCParticipant
I wasn’t sure where to put this post as it is more a question on Black & White conversion, but as it is a travel shot, I’ll ask here.
Firstly, I’d like to know which is better, the colour shot or the b&w converted shot?
If the b&w looks bad, any suggestions on what might work?
I have CS3, used a blue filter conversion, with added contrast, but I don’t have much of a feel for b&w.Any other c&c is welcome too.
In the 1700’s a fire started in the temple and spread to Tokyo where it killed tens of thousands. The statues at the back represent the dead and are
atonement by the temple. You can pour water on the statues to ease their suffering. Thanks, Martin
PitmaticMemberThe colour shot is nice and the black an white one works well but what i would do with the BW shot is make asection around the statue with a bit of a feather and make the statue brighter or invert and make the background darker
Ill do an example tonight if your stuck i only have elements *sniff* :)
MartinOCParticipantThanks Mark, you are right, a bit of separation between the front statue and background would be good.
I’ll give it a go, but I’m limited to a laptop track-pad at the moment, not very accurate. As for CS3, I got it at a time I was feeling very flush, but I hesitated a lot.
For me the most important features above PS elements are the B&W converter and Curves, both can be got as 3rd party plug-ins for Elements, I believe.
A bit of a waste of money for me, I haven’t even used a layer yet, or any of that stuff.Cheers,
Martin
PitmaticMemberJust a quickie showing on the left a siple eliptical section over the stutue messing with levels and brightness (could push it further) and on the right same selection more or less but playing with the blur filter and you can of course combine them
if anyone wants to give me a full legal copy of cs3 i will be gratefull :)
MartinOCParticipantYou deserve a full copy of CS3, if I were a rich man I’d buy you one :)
Thanks for the feedback, definitely an improvement, I like both.
Normally I won’t go for the blur myself but it does make a nice photo…you have got me thinking.
This weekend I’ll try another go at bringing on the front statue some more in photoshop.Cheers,
Martin
jessthespringerParticipantI like the mono… maybe diffuse glow might be good, something along the same
lines as Pitmatic was doing.BTW Pitmatic, CS3 student edition can be bought for about a 3rd of the price
from amazon.Sinead.
PitmaticMemberAhh
but
a) are you supposed to be a student to have it? legally and even then upgrade when your not a student
b) I am skint…
PixelleMembera) Yes, or an adult buying it for a student, as primary pupils qualify.
No need to upgrade.b) :(
Photoshop products can be ordered from the Adobe site.
