There’s nothing else to show after Lousys display

Alan RossiterParticipant
I couldn’t compete with lousys volume so just a couple of the ones thet I picked up today at the Saltees. I’d recommend a trip…just keep your equipment to a minimum…it’s a long Island with steep inclines. I had enough equipment for every eventuality…except the 1/2 hour of rain.
Every time a gannet landed it would grip the neck of it’s partner and shake it…then the head shaking would go on with a little bit of necking to end it. Worth a try??
At least someone is surviving in the building slump
The Razorbill…literally
The clownAlan
MartinParticipantThese are really nice. Your self and Lousy/Deadly got some great shots. You got really close, is there much cropping going on, seem to be a bit too sharp to have cropped in. Really nice, if your going again let me know I’ll be along for sure if you could put up with me for a few hours…

BrickeeParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantCheers Jim.
Martin – the first has about 50% cropped from the top – just sky. It looked fine while taking but 50% of nothing was unnecessary. The second and last had about 20-25% cropped from the right side just to make the attention exclusively on the birds. The third is untouched.
You can get to within feet of these birds. The razorbill was about 3 feet, the puffin about 6 feet while you could also get within 6 feet of the gannets too but as they’re roosting at the moment it’s not recommended from a safety point of view and purely not to spook the birds.
The trip cost €25 each and we left at 10am and were picked up at 4pm with a 20min trip each way. I’m sure we’ll be going again soon so I’ll certainly give you a holler.Alan

Yeah right! except the quality. .
The day was very good to you too Alan, the last one being an absolute cracker.

orla_fParticipantDon’t know what you mean about nothing to show! these are terrific – I especially like the first and last.
Well done!
Orla.Alan RossiterParticipantlousyParticipantA class act if ever there was one… good auld lousy.
Princess me arse
PatMadra RuaParticipantI am stunned
When did you learn to take such beautiful photos?! :wink:What lens did you use for those close-ups?
Great stuff Alan!
Let me know as well when you plan to go again ….please…PodgeMemberAll lovely shots Alan (including the one of her highness).
#2 wouldn’t look out of place in any wildlife mag I’ve seen.
BrickeeParticipantYhats one heck of a grin. that’s all I’m going to say.
Jim
PitmaticMemberGreat shots of a few birds and a princess :)
They really do look like magazine material would love to do that trip sometime looks like you had a great time indeed :)
Alan RossiterParticipantThanks all. To be honest it’s like shooting fish in a barrel in some places especially around the gannets. The princess was the most tempermental one  .
The lens I used was the 50-500mm. You don’t really need the long range lens as you’ll get to within a few feet of some of the birds. They don’t seem too intimidated by your presence. And I’d fully recommend a trip. I believe Darren G is heading there next week.
