The composition is suffering here from incomplete people.
I’d get out that crop tool to start with Liam and loose the arm on the left hand side and the lady on the right hand side and focus in on the 4 main ladies in full view.
A lot of your market shots show lots of people, but no true focal point. I think you could afford to home in on a single person and capture that one person in their environment, doing their thing. Hope I am making sense here.
I take your point, I’ve always had a difficulty with taking portraits in this environment, I almost never get close enough….also though with travel photos, one is taking liberties a bit by asking to take a photo, and it is a lot less awkward (for both parties) to ask a group for a photo than an individual…..also you can’t really take a photo like this without asking first…..anyway, this works better (though I opted to keep the older lady for balance).
I know what you mean Liam… I’d find it awkward too… especially with the language barrier. The crop looks good… because there are fewer distractions… your focus is on the lady, and she’s better engaged with the camera up close.
