MorganParticipant
I always loved photos and am always using my dads camera, i have decided buy my own now. Not really sure what to buy. My budget is around 250 euro , so any ideas on a good camera for for reasonalbe price .I can extend my budget. Thanks :)
shutterbugParticipantHi Morgan, welcome to the site, really depends on your own preference, what type of photographs
you like to take, do you want a compact point and shoot or something a little more involved that you
can build on, there are just so many different choices out there, I started off with Fuji compacts and
they give great results and the added bonus of being small enough to take everywhere with you, I
still always have one with me even though I have “progressed” onto SLR. What kind of camera has
your Dad got and if you are happy with the results you are getting with that maybe consider something
similar? There is a mine of information on the internet so google and read up on a few. Once you have
decided what you want it gets a little easier :)MorganParticipantHe has an Olympus E-500 a bit out of my price range im just 16 so you konw, might look into a kodak p880 on ebay is it any good.
shutterbugParticipantOlympus are doing a little ultra zoom camera which you can pick up on ebay
for around 280 10mp 20x zoom a fantastic little camera, there is also the Stylus
also Olympus which is shock proof water proof and crush proof!! Dont know much
about Kodaks but they have been making cameras for years so cant be bad.RobMemberHi Morgan and welcome to the site…
The Olympus E-500 has been superceded by several models since its introduction,
the E-400, E-410, E-510, E-520 and the E-3. If you extend your budget by only a little
you may well pick up an E-500 for yourself at a reasonably low price. For instance,
here’s one in Germany at the moment…€277 is a pretty decent price for an excellent entry level dSLR. I still use my own E-500 as a second
body on shoots and it hasn’t let me down yet. You could spend your hard-earned on a good point and
shoot but the more you get into photography the sooner you’ll want to upgrade and your money may
have just been wasted on something you won’t really want to use that much. Shop around as much as
you can. As new models appear on the market, older ones drop in price, not just Olympus but also
Nikon and Canon models. Other recommended models might be the Canon 350D or the Nikon D70,
both available for less than €300 if you shop around. You could then pick up a couple of kit lenses to
start yourself off, also available at knockdown prices or second hand. Shop around, research, and
think before you spend…Rob.
steelydanParticipantI would wait until you get the €300 to buy the E500 (thats the one you really want) As rob stated its a good price but theres €25 shipping on top of the buy it now on ebay price. I have wasted more money rushing into buying photography equipment ,because i had to have it there and now, to discover that i ended up buying the one i was really after from the start because of its quality etc.Its only another €50 and you will have it by summers end.

Look like this deal excludes lens – or is me German worse than I thought?

RobMemberThat particular deal does exclude lenses, but kit lenses can be picked up for
less in or around €50 second hand, making a good starter kit for about €325…Rob.
RobMember…incidently, if you do decide to go down the Olympus route, I have two kit
lenses (14-45mm and 40-150mm) gathering dust in the East wing of my Kells
mansion that you can have for a song…Rob.

MorganParticipantRobMemberThey work on all four-thirds mount cameras, which is all of the
Olympus E-System cameras, the Panasonic DMC L-10 and Lumix DMC L-1,
and the Leica Digilux 3…Rob.
