    Hey,
Does anyone know where I can get high quality printing done? I saw some prints recently and they had an almost 3d quality the paper was so thick, I think someone mentioned silver gel printing? Who does stuff like this in Ireland?
    Thanks,
    Alex

what kind of images are they, I offer printing, although havent seen the system you mention, there are lots of options

one which looks very good is laminated prints with ultra gloss laminate, they have a huge depth to them.

Silver Gelatine printing is traditional darkroom printing and the thick paper was probably fibre based paper. The ‘almost 3D quality’ would be a typical of a nicely printed photograph on fibre paper.

The prints are for clients who will be getting prints framed for display in their homes and offices. Most of them will have a display light on them a lot of the time and could be in direct sunlight, so I would need something that won’t be subject to fading through light damage. Also I need to get a book printed. The book will have images on every second page and one or two two-page ‘panoramas’ what can anyone suggest?

you will have to be careful

companies will generally run scared when you mention sunlight,

I know for example the laminated surfaces i use add UV protection BUT not sure i would want to suggest it will stop fading due to sunlight

I will help sure, but not stop it

I am not aware of any method that will stop fading

    Hey,

I was wondering if anyone could share some info on lightjet printing? I have had a few exhibitions this year and I am not really happy with the digital iris prints I have been using.

    Thanks

Ive gotten Lambda prints done before by a company in redditch in the uk.
I know palm labs in birmingham do lightjet.
The results ive seen so far have been fantastic.

They are on the web somewhere i dont have the link but you will find them on google.
As far as i know alot of people around the world use them.

As for the extra cost, well thats down to you, if you are happy to pay it….. i would highly recommend it.

I’m also offering a fine art printing service in West Cork. I can handle prints up to 24″ wide on a variety of substrates – give me a call at the number below and I’ll be happy to help you out.

As far as protecting prints from sunlight – strong UV protection in the glass is the only way to go, but that will only slow the onset of fading, not stop it. The best UV protective glasses are also very expensive. I would make no guarantees to a customer that framing in such a glass will do anything other than slow the process – the only way to get the best life from the prints is to hang them out of direct (and ideally even reflected) sunlight.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
    Peter

for protection, you can also do things like the cold press lamination. hotpress for example have a ultra glossy laminate surface, it has good uv protection an means you dont have to use a frame, which allows lots more options in terms of mounting and presentation
