I’m thinking of getting a set of pocket wizards from the states but have a quick question.
Does anyone know if it is the US ones that cause interference to emergency services transmissions here or is it the other way around.
As far as I know the Euro ones transmit at 433MHz and the US ones at 1000MHz.Thanks

Unless you are likely to be in a position where interference will cause a problem i wouldnt worry about itThey operate on different frequencies, as follows:
FCC & IC (USA & Canada)
* Channel 1 -16 344.0MHz
* Channel 17-32 346.6 ~354.0MHzCE (Europe)
* Channel 1 -16 433.62MHz
* Channel 17-32 434.22MHzIt’s illegal to use the use versions here or elsewhere in Europe. There’s plenty of reference info on ComReg’s site, including a list of Permitted Short Range Devices in Ireland – it doesn’t list specific devices, but rather the ranges of frequencies that may be used without a license and this includes the 433.050 – 434.790 MHz band.
Just to confirm, is it illegal for me to use my pocket wizards which I bought in the states?

I think ciaran got some from the states and then had them doctored so they were in the correct range.
Ive never had any trouble with mine interfering with emergency broadcasts so i dont think ill bother getting them decoded just yet, although god to know that i have to buy any additional ones from the states now.
Isn’t the issue that emercency broadcasts would have the problem ?
Thats why the frequency is illegalThe Emergency Services Radio Networks are due to be going on to the Digital “Tetra” system over the next 18-24mths. So any pocket Wizards on any freq should be Ok. I have not heard of anyone who has encountered any problems.If you look at the likes of International football matches with photographers from other countries setting up pocket wizards and other wireless triggers all of these being short range transmitters, they do not seem to effect the emergency service radios. Most Emergency Services run in the 456mhz-467mhz and the 150-170mhz range.

They might well be “OK” but just because something is “OK” it doesn’t mean it’s legal or “OK” to break Irish or European law.
As for the Tetra system, they’ve been talking about that for years and I wouldn’t hold my breath on it.
