I’ve a good few more of this type of thing including more 1950s cars than you can shake a stick at. Although some of them are in such bad nick shaking a stick at them might not be such a good idea. The place is crumbling but still one of the best places I’ve been. Those communists certainly know how to run a good bar (or two) :D

Yep. Drank in that one and his other favourite haunt La Bodeguita del Medio a couple of blocks over from this. Made it a second home!!

I like the second one a lot, it captures various aspects of the city. Hopefully Havana will come through Hurricane season in one piece.

Great shots showing the way of life. Fancy a trip to this part of the world some time, what I have seen it looks a cracking location.

I might be heading over for about a week in January, any advice???

Locals cool with having their photo taken? Any run-in’s with the Police?

Some great stuff there.. having seen these and some of Jay King’s similar shots from Cuba it really has putting a longing on me to visit.

    Thanks for all the comments.

It is a great place to visit and the photo opportunities are excellent.

    In answer to kasement:

Don’t go to the holiday resort of Varadero. You could be anywhere in the world and you don’t get a sense of Cuba at all. Lovely beach though. The locals have no problem with photos being taken. Just bring loads of pesos because they all want cash for their trouble. And there are people walking around waiting for you to take their photo. It seems to be their sole source of income.

No run ins with the cops. There’s one on nearly every street corner though. They don’t like you talking too much to the locals but that’s nearly impossible because they’re a very curious bunch.

Stay in the Havana Vieja if you can. That’s the most interesting part of the city. And bring loads of memory cards. And for a steady hand make sure not to drink too many Bucaneeros the night before!
