Broadband………not!

Noely FParticipant
Isn’t it great to get your 3mb connection upgraded to 7.6mb (actual speed about 6.5mb) for free!
And then the wonderful Eircon decide to fix it…..and now I can download at less than a meg
Lots of people nationwide and with various ISP’s are in the same boat……..anyone else want to have a rant :lol:stcstcMemberone thing to be sure of, make sure your router is adsl2 compatible, else the speed will be slower rather than better
nfl-fanParticipantIs this just a Dublin (the centre of the Irish Universe) thing… or a general thing?
My BB speed has been chronic the past couple of days… but seems to be back to normal today.
stcstcMembermy understanding, and am by no means an expert is its all the lines that eircom just upgraded. which i believe is across the country
nfl-fanParticipantThat must explain the interuption I was having the past few days.
Ta SC
Noely FParticipantRouter is capable of 24mb down, adsl 2 / 2+ its a nationwide thing too!
nfl-fanParticipantMine’s acting odd again…
Earlier I download a 100mb file no problem, came down at about 150kb/sec which is about normal for me.
I just went to download something a few mins ago and it was coming down at 10kb/sec.
It’s been like this for a few days now… will prob contact the BB Supplier on Monday.
steelydanParticipantDont know about Eircom but i used to have a wireless router on my NTL 10Mb and it was only about 100Kb/sec download.
I recently got it wired direct into the modem and now m average speed is 600Kb/sec, topping 1.2Mb/sec. Did not see any deterioration in the past week or so though
SteveDParticipantcathaldParticipantYour not so bad when i asked the eircom guy a while back about broadband
in my area and he told me i would be lucky to get caller id its so weak in my area
i have it through a sat conection now 3meg its not so bad(feck eircom)Noely FParticipantNow the thick plottens!!…..i used a prog called advanced windows care, one of my main cleaner upper progs :D
and in the optimization panel it found loads of dns, tcp errors…..not caused by me as they were never there before!
Now if I didnt change the settings on my router, an external force is responsible….throttling is afoot…..be ye warned  Oh by the way, since the system was optimized I’m back to 6.5mb :Dnfl-fanParticipantJust off the phone to UTV my Internet Supplier… after about 10 days of dodgy service I got fed up and needed to know for sure.
Looks like it is Eircom upgrades that are causing problems for a lot of people… especially during peak hours e.g.
7:55am this morning I did a speed test – Download:2544kps Upload: 313kps
14:55pm this afternoon another speed test – Download:598kps Upload: 254kps
They’ve raised it with Eircom and ComReg… so just a matter of sitting and waiting.
Glad to know that it’s Eircom for sure… and not some rogue agent running on my PC!

emjayParticipantJust outside Letterkenny (centre of universe  )
I use Irish Broadband wireless. Use their Breeze 2Mb product and it works well. It is supposed to run at 2Mb download and upload.
Just done a speed test and it is downloading at 2.072 Mb and uploading at 1.056 Mb. In practice although the upload speed is slower than should be it is ok and it is reliable.Interested in this thread since I am on the point of moving to Perlico or BT for phone / broadband bundle. The broadband would be ADSL. Anyone using Perlico
MikkaParticipantLast nights speed test on my 3Mb connection

and this evening
I hope this does not go on for much longer
