The first thing I thought when I saw the second pic was “Amy Winehouse?” :)
The fourth is my fave here, well caught, but what’s with the tongue?
Alan RossiterParticipantI never really venture into gig sets but gave this one a go. I think the first three mean more to the attendee than a viewer as the band are unknown to me. The fourth is quite a different story and a good portrayal of the energy being transmitted into the music. It’s worth it for the fourth one alone.
Alan
Punk RockMemberFair point about the bands been unknown, thats what true Punk rock is all about DIY and underground.
I far prefer these underground gigs where there are no bouncers, cheap entry and no rules on cams/camcorders or rules infact!I shoot a gig obviously for a Punk forum and do a “coverage of the night” set so to speak, why I do a lot of crowd shots too.
Good examples of this is any of these sets…and these incidently was Punk Rocks biggest meet up of the year, so if you’ve never heard of any of these bands I honestly can’t help you there.:)

Oozes energy… looks like he’s really into it… great facial expression.
What would make this for me would be a slightly slower shutter speed to capture some of the movement, maybe even a little softness… I like this sorta effect.

Punk RockMemberHi NFL, I’m not really experienced enough to get into the artistic side yet but do feel I’m learning all the time but truth to the matter is I do have like much alcohol on me when these are taken and hence forget to try something different, I am a big drinker at gigs, this stuff just rolls down the throat too easily!
ExpresbroParticipantI like the portrait style shots of 2 and 4 myself, although No.1 does seem to capture the energy I’m sure was going on.
The singer in No.2 reminds me more of PJ Harvey than Amy Winohouse.
The set up sounds great for candid photography actually. Would it be safe to bring a nice new D300 or is their lots of jumping around and banging liable to send it flying?

8)Punk RockMemberWell Robbie yes there is lots of jumping around but you learn how to cope, I take pics with my elbows out, if you know what I mean and my Cam always well protected.
There is a band called The Excuses playing this Friday night in The Tap at the junction of Church st/North Kings st and they are fantastic to photograph, lead vocalist pulls so many faces and the bass player has long hair and is totally into his music, guitarist is like an extra from the hills have eyes too, drop down and say hi, it’s a great way to get good gig photography is a Punk gig, no bouncers no rules.ExpresbroParticipantSounds cool…might just do that :D
No.1 and 3 of that last batch are class!!
