Trawler in the sunrise

Seeing as JB is back around I’d better put this in the catch-all dept and not landscape.
Another from last weekend – a trawler on the quay in Wexford about 20 minutes after the sun broke above the low cloud cover. The colours were warm and what you don’t often see during this summer.
This was taken with the 10-20mm, ISO400, 1/250sec f9, handheld.

Thats a cracker Alan nice colours and the two moored sailing boats add alot to the image.
I was going to say its nice and sharp and would look good printed……..but thats another storyCathal
aha- a challenge-
or pack drill…Things would be a lot easier here if this section was just called ‘Everything’.
Though I can see your difficulty,
there’s more sea than land here, and even that is mostly street-I passed by your dock recently while rushing to a little job down there-
well, I say ‘rush’ but I was stuck in a jam beside those trawlers-It looks like a vibrant spot- lots of photogenic possibilities-
I even sought out your roundy crinkly tin pub on my way back,
but apathy won out over creativity,
and I grudgingly chalked you up a walkover…I’ve seen a couple of yours recently, very good too-
particularly liked your flock of birds- was that also posted in Landscape?
can’t really remember, and it’s probably not important…Sorry I didn’t say so at the time,
but I’m struck a little by how difficult it is to come up with new things to say,
beyond ‘great shot’ or some such suchlike.In a way, it’s easier to comment on pictures that I can find fault with,
but perhaps that is saying more about me than the picture-
which is not altogether a good thing-However, I’ve got this far, so I may as well put some prejudices on view-
The thing that immediately strikes me, apart from the object in the middle, is the colour-
I’m not so taken by the warm to cold transition-
perhaps what I’m trying to say is that there is perhaps too much saturation,
or too much warmth…The trawler itself is very central, but seems to obscure itself,
and there’s almost a full reflection, but not-
it does appear ‘cut off’ in a way-Its central placement is also, perhaps, a little bit worrying-
I think it splits the composition too much-
it interrupts the flow around the picture,
with the yachts and the seafront jockying for position-
I wonder if there’s a 5×4 in there with a little bit off the right?Now don’t get me wrong, this is a likeable picture, and I do like it,
but I’m just wondering if it could be improved slightly-
and I know I’m overstepping the mark here by going beyond the crop suggestion that I usually allow myself,
and mentioning the colour-so I hope you don’t take me up the wrong way…
Anyway, I see that I’m back to ploughing my lonely furrow here,
and that, in this democracy of opinions, I find myself in the wrong again, as usual-oh well-

Ah… and people new to the site might ask themselves “who is this jb7” and “why do they welcome him back”… wonder no more. Would you ever write a book Joseph and cease the longing that many of us have for your almost “lyrical” delights!
Apologies Alan… jb-mania is running riot about the place… mods please… jb7 t-shirts and camera straps! I like the image… now that j says it… the compo is a bit off… more water, less street would really top this off… but that aside I really think it’s truly serene and so tranquil.

If I ever get one iota of the sense you have for the sun I’ll feel confident to quit my day job.
I wouldn’t normally be attracted to photos of trawlers, I grew up near the ocean and sort of feel like I’ve seen them all, but I was dumbstruck when I opened this.
I love it! Between your genius choice of lens..oh gawd I love mine…and your brilliant sense of light (oh I am turning sycophant again..forgive me) this is beautiful.
Absolutely floats my boat.

oh I didn’t get a moment to read the other comments…but just from the length…I am guessing J’s comments are a little more qualified than mine :lol:
Thanks for the replies folks…I had to go through JBs a few times!!
The 10-20 is a great little lens but does produce unnatural elements sometimes such as the darker blue top right than the rest of the image. To the left there was direct sunshine giving the warm-cold transition. And coincidentally this was composed as-is so there’s no room to go aroound right for a different composition.
