Taken on the River Slaney, Co. Wexford.
Boat courtesy of Daithi Cahill, a neighbour, who took me down the river this morning in search of Kingfishers, of which we spotted three. No photos though.
guthrijParticipantI lke this one. Great flying formation but you wonder how they stay up! The straight necks are fantastic. Well spotted.
jb7ParticipantThat’s great-
I noticed the other over on flickr too-
and I think I might prefer the lighting and background and lack of vignette in that one-
though the flock has maybe arranged itself better here-good one-
j
nfl-fanParticipantCheers Gents.
John: Thought the same thing re: how they stay up. Was watching them take off from the river and it must require a tremendous amount of strength on their own behalf.
j: Yep, agree that there are elements in the other version that I quite like as well.
Thanks again.
Jwexkel11MemberPeteTheBlokeMemberNice shot. I like the colour.
Why is one swan flying a different direction from the other five?
Was he just in the wrong place at the right time?proachMemberNice one NFL, just wondering if you brought up the sharpness in Ligthroom? (I notice some black spots around the birds)
nfl-fanParticipantThanks chaps.
PTB: Not sure about that odd swan… I have a sequence of these swans in flight and he appears to be off in a number of them, but then re-aligns later on.
Paul: Noticed that black halo sorta thing going on around some of the swans alright.. a strange one for sure.. just went back over the Lightroom history and it seems to occur on a Clarity adjustment… so is fixable.
J
proachMemberYep, I had the same experience in Lightroom 2.0 when bringing up clarity (thats what I meant in previous post).
Oh and by the way, my name is Peter ;)

Possibly looking at the view.
The four lower swans (apart from Mr Awkward) look like clones – I like this shot
more as I keep looking at it.nfl-fanParticipantThe chap that brought me out on the boat told me that in the spot where this shot was taken that a times there can be up to 500 swans pocketed about the place… a sight I would truly love to see. There were only about 50 on Saturday.
He also gave me a half a dozen bird related books… Collins Bird Guide (Mullarney, Svensson, Zetterstrom, Grant) which he highly recommended. I’ve already been through the “Pocket Birdfeeder Handbook” and found it very useful, few ideas to attract the birds over the coming months… things I wasn’t aware they like to snack on like cheese and cat food.
3 Kingfisher sightings too… wow… how beautiful are they. No fear of me photographing one though… I was so excited I almost fell out of the boat on the first sighting. Ah… the small things in life eh.

Never?! Really?
You didn’t buy it when _I_ recommended it, but when yer man recommends it… well… it’s the mutt’s nuts.
nfl-fanParticipantApologies PTB… you did indeed.
I put it’s purchase on the long finger back then and totally forgot about it. Now I have 6 books and the offer of regular boat trips on the Slaney.
Things happen for a reason.
