    Hi,
i have a sigma 70-300mm and was wondering was it worth my while getting a teleconverter. i have never used one before – so i just wanted to know how effective they actually are.
Anybody got any experience with these?????

On a 70-300mm id say the optical quality would be brutal. And you would have to shoot at a high iso, auto focus would be very slow also

    I wouldn’t spend the money

I used to use a Sigma 2x on a Sigma 50-500mm. Never liked it, no auto focus, slows the lens down by 2 stops. I am sure there will be PI members who have had success with this combination but I just found it to be very hit and miss. The Canon 1.4x is great on Canon L 2.8 lenses but these lenses are expensive. If you need more reach than the 300 mm, you would be better to buy a Sigma 50-500 mm.

    Cheers.

I’ve used the Canon 1.4x TC and 2x TC with Canon L lenses.

Don’t forget about the extra stop (or two) you get when using these.

    So, a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens with a 2x TC becomes a 140-400mm f/5.6 lens.

It will effect the speed of focus and the quality of the images too, but the higher the quality of your lens to begin with will determine the output.

I’ve used the 1.4x TC a good bit, and like the results, especially when I need reach but don’t need as fast a lens.

The 2x TC is much less used, due to the aperture and slower focus.
