This humble heap of stones marks the grave of St. Aiden whose remains were transferred to here from Lindisfarne in 677 by St. Colman. The gable wall is that of the old 17th century church. There’s much of historical interest here including a Christianised Druid well adjacent to the more modern church. The view is across Lough Foyle to Inishowen in the far background.
C&C welcome.
Not sure about the composition of this, I think the industrial units are detracting. I would have been worth positioning yourself to focus on the historic site, and perhaps a B&W conversion would have worked.
Interesting site, must give it a visit myself some day.
Peter- Taking this earlier in the year I was undecided about concentrating on the scenic or historic aspect and you’ve confirmed my mistake of including both. Thanks for the comment.
p.s. Yes, it’s well worth a visit if you’re down that way as it is a very nice location as well as being historic.
