Im not ready to take this seriously, i seem to remeber a similar article, where photographers would need id cards in order to shoot in public. Only when its made official will I believe it.
Good grief. The logic behind this photo paranoia escapes me entirely. What do they think terrorists are going to gain from taking photographs that they can’t already get from Google satellite images? Detailed images of most of New York for example, including street level photographs, are available on Google Maps for anyone with an internet connection to see.
This isn’t really about preventing images getting into terrorists’ hands – as you point out, most are readilly available (or can be attained through covert surveillance). In my opinion, it’s more about increased control over our lives, with this matter being part of the development of a mind-set that enables such control to be extended. I’m not a conspiracy theory supporter: when you look at the UK’s erosion of civil and public liberties in recent years, this matter fits into a pattern.
When everybody fits into the lowest common denominator, everybody is easier to control and manipulate.
I have a tendency towards being a believer in (some) conspiracy theories, I must confess.
The “terrorist” excuse is obviously ridiculous for reasons already mentioned, so there must be some other reasoning behind this desire for control. Who wants the control and why?
