Camera shops in Belfast/Northern Ireland?
-
bingbongbiddleyParticipant
Hi,
I’ve noticed that online camera retailers in the UK offer a much better deal than Irish shops.Obviously online prices will usually beat prices in bricks and mortar shops, but I’d guess that better prices are found in bricks and mortar shops in the UK anyway.
Any of our Northern Irish based residents care to recommend good shops up there? They don’t have to be in Belfast obviously.
Nice one,
Alan
cathaldParticipantI have not used these guys but i here they are good

jessthespringerParticipantIt really depends what it is you are after. You need to just shop around. There are a few Jessops stores that can have very good prices sometimes, you just need to keep an eye on their prices, they can change around quite a bit, also the website can be cheeper sometimes too. I wouldn’t buy a camera that had been on display though… Just trust me on that one, I worked there for a while last year and seen the same D200 fall off the shelf a couple of times.
Calumet have a store on the Boucher rd in Belfast… Don’t know much about their prices though.
Not sure about anywhere else. Currys sell camera gear too, but after sales service is supposed to be really bad.
ben4130ParticipantCalumet are great, they are not exceptionally cheap, just current uk rates, but they are great to deal with and usually cheaper than the south.
guthrijParticipantCalumet are great but just order on line from their London store. Great service.
Cheers. John
weelesMemberCalumet on Boucher Road are very good, usually £10 – £15 cheaper than Jessops and an excellant customer service.
BMParticipantI have found that Calumet has comparable prices with Warehouse Express – often cheapter. I’m researching Lee filters at the moment and Calumet is definitely cheaper.

BrickerParticipantHi,
When I was upgrading to a DSLR around this time last year I was looking around for the best deal on a tight budget. I settled on an Olympus e410 to get me going and watched the price to pick my moment. I eventually found it in a sale at CURRYS(!) for 350stg… and that was for the twin lens set and the e system bag….. and before cash back. That was around 450€ at the time….. and I then got 75€ in crisp notes (???) via the cash back scheme. At the time it was cheaper than anywhere and has only been beaten recently. It will do me for another year.
I was in Newry yesterday getting paint pod paint in B&Q (bigger range of colours, slightly cheaper). While I was there I popped into Jessops and bought a back pack….. I browsed the cameras and the prices are as per the web….. and similar/same as Currys and Calumet.
Oh, and while i was at it I stocked up on wine in Sainsburys! I got 18 various bottles for about 5€ a pop (excuse the pun)…. they were giving 25% off when you buy 6. Mind you it was like Christmas Eve with ques down the aisles…. and that was at 11am! That should keep me going anyway!
