Photo quality

my photos i have been take are 3888 pix by 2588. if i want to print these in a3 size photos will the quality be ok or do i need to mess about with resolution ? in photo shop elements the resolution on a photo is 72, what should i up this to ? iam only learning this part of photography and it seems very confusing. any information on what i should do would be great.
I’m no expert but the pixel size you mention should be fine. You should up the DPI to 300 and try a print at that. Try posting in the photography forum on boards.ie as well if you don’t get many replies here.

Can you tell me a little bit about your capture process – what camera, do you shoot in raw or jpg? The 72 dpi is probably coming from your raw converter (either in-camera or saoftware). In any event, it should not really matter, ijust watch the dimensions in cm/inches on the print dialog box and make sure it fits!
Printing an image to the fullest extent of an A3 page is possible, but your image better be super sharp to start with. THe bigger you print, the more you will show up waeknesses in your images. An it goes without saying that if you cropped the original, them the image quality can get worse

for an image of 16*12 inches ideally you need
16 *360 pixels = 5760, but you can get away with a little less, depending on a bunch of factors
and 12 * 360 = 4320 but as above
