Little Plastic (underexposed) Jess… and Trees

Had a few film related disasters of late, these are very underexposed but I’m just happy there was something on the negs!
These were shot on 400 iso colour film this afternoon, not the best light but thought I would give it a whirl anyway.
I added a texture to the second, might be committing some kind of lomo crime…. Please don’t pee in my shoes!!

Adding texture is definately a lomo crime, a slippery slope. Soon you will be switching to a fuji finepix and just pressing the “holga” button on your imaging editing software. :)

I went to an exhibition recently by a photographer who took photos like these. His life had fallen apart and he had gone a mad and took dark pictures of ravens. I hope you’re ok!

Number two I think I would like a lot if Jess was more distinct, and with a bit more contrast (and sans texture). I’m not sure that someone seeing the picture hanging on a wall would recognise it was a dog, and get that important element.
I think I have a thing for this kind of shot, only yesterday I came across a photo on flickr in a similar style by an NI photographer http://www.flickr.com/photos/g_12/3043410729/ that I like. (He even has a dog shot on there you might like!)

[edit] In number one a bit more detail in the head would be great I think. I like the balance between the Jess highlights and the sky highlights. It does suffer a bit exposure wise, as you say. Initially I wasn’t sure about it but I like it.

    Just my opinion….

Howya Martin, tee hee… I am guilty of crimes against lomo then? Oh dear! (I think I am being followed by lomo agents).

These were a bit of an accident… Takes a while getting used to this toy camera carry on.

God, you think I’m mad… Sometimes I do too, which, apperantly means I’m not… Anyway, I’m ok thanks, ever so slightly stressed lately, but sure who isn’t?

I do like dark pictures, sometimes I try to be dark and it’s obvious and then other times (like this) I don’t, and people think it’s a bit creepy, which pleases me and worries me both at the same time (that’s usually when I wonder if I’m mad).

Thanks for the feedback Martin, much appreciated as always.

The composition of the first one is quite good I think. Maybe a bit cropped off the bottom would improve it. But unfortunately it is too underexposed to work.

I like the second too but as you say it is also underexposed.

I’m also not keen on the banding that goes across both images. Does this appear on all your holga images?
