Dunquin Harbour – Colour or B&W?

Hi folks –
Bit of a clichéed shot, but has to be done. What do you think, B&W or colour?
Long exposure thanks to a 10-stop ND.
Cheers,
PeterwesleylawMembercolour for me Peter. The road is more clearly a road in the colour one (if that makes sense). The surf around the rocks in the b+w is a bit much, it looks painted or burned in. You get some idea of the weather conditions in the colour one with the variations of bluey greeny grey. No contest. I dont like the b+w at all.
MartinParticipantThe colour by a mile. The long exposure does not work in the B+W at all, works a bit better in the colour. If you have one without the long exposure I would have a look at it…
The path needs someone walking up it or ideally the classic image of this view with the sheep walking up…

Agree, from these two colour is much better, and b/w does nothing.
but the classic view with the sheep has to be captioned ‘Irish traffic jam’
ossie13ParticipantMadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantHi Peter, glad to see new images of you.
I think both are excellent and have their special use.b&w: excellent fineart print / calendar
colour: commercial tourism brochures….I am usually a colour freak but in this case i really love the b&w. the moving gras and the composition of rock and the round path have a great balance.
PS: I would sharpen a bit more for web.
PixelleMemberMy vote is for the colour version, I like the changing shades in the waves especially top right.. I would tone down the grass a bit, it is very shamrock-ery.
lousyParticipantjb7ParticipantI might buck the trend here and vote for neither-
I’m not sure I’d call it a clichéed shot at all-
but perhaps it doesn’t capture the beauty and power of the location, for me-Compositionally, I find them a bit clunky-
perhaps a little more separation between the rocks and the road would help-
but you’d need a helicopter for that.
Also, it seems to be cut off on the left edge- not really contained within the frame,
almost as if a wider landscape format might have helped-I’m pretty sure you must have some more from here though…
