photoshop RAW plugin

Hi,
I’ve been converting my raw images using teh canon software provided with my 40D. I hear there is an adobe plugin available that is handier. I have never down loaded a plugin and am not sure where to start. I need a plug in for CS2, anyone have any tips for me?

The plug in you are referring to is Camera Raw (An Adobe plugin for Photoshop)
For the Canon 40D you will need Camera Raw 4.2 or later
Unfortunatley Camera Raw 4.2 is not available for your version of Photoshop (CS2)
So you will not be able to get this plugin without upgrading your Photoshop.
I know! that’s a bummer. CS2 is not that old but unfortunately Adobe have already moved on now to CS4
It is their way of extracting more and more cash out of us :cry: :cry:
However, you can download Adobe dng converter. This is free, and should work with your CR2 files.
It converts them to Adobe dng format — it’s another type of raw file.
You can then edit the dng in CS2.
Slightly tedious workaround, I’m afraid; as emjay says, otherwise you must upgrade to CS3 which gives ACR up to 4.6
Alternatively, consider Adobe Lightroom 2.1; this contains the most up-to-date raw converters. But it costs ££ €€.Emma, if you do what rc53 suggests, and start using Adobe RAW, you might find the following article useful for getting to grips with the basics…

thanks for prompt replies, will try the dng converter as cant fork out for cs4 at mo, just back from NewYork and blew a lot of money on a new lens and accessories!! Will also check out that link. thanks guys.

If you mean DPP, then I’d suggest you stick with that. ACR isn’t going to be any quicker and the output from DPP has been shown to be better than ACR.
I agree with Thorsten. Use DPP to convert from RAW, you will get better results with it.
I hate to break it you Thorsten but DPP is very slow. At least it now has lens corrections though!
I’ve never had speed issues with DPP even with folders containing above 1000 images from a shoot (no major performance issues although you can tell the computer is under strain – understandable!). Photoshop is awful lanky for most jobs.
Lightroom is very efficient if you’re talking about the topic of RAW (well that’s its only purpose really).. I don’t even have photoshop installed on my computer to be honest – don’t need it.
Lightroom is definitely the way to go for RAW, so much power.

For a very modest cost, try PTLens for corrections; works very well, either as plug-in or stand alone.
