Places to Photograph in Dublin

I’m looking for good places to photograph in Dublin… Not necessarily in Dublin City, but anywhere in the county (or surrounding counties reachable on Dublin Bus)… I’m not looking for anything in particular, just anywhere picturesque.. or even somewhere really ugly, as long as i might be able to get a few good photos there!
Can anyone suggest anywhere? (I’ve already got all the REALLY obvious places on my list, like the Phoenix Park and the Dublin Mountains)
Also, any good events with free (or cheap) entry coming up that might be worth heading to for pictures?randomwayMemberI think, it’s not only the question of “where”, but “when” and “how”. One of the best collection of picturesque photos I’ve seen about Dublin is here:
http://philpankov.com/-/philpankovMy own observation is that the light that you can work with during the day is usually very diffused and the city looks grey and dull. At night the contrast is much higher and the crowd on the street is more interesting, too. Just an idea.
RagDollPhotographyMemberLoGillParticipantcheck out the dart and all the locations available on there .. everything from malahide to greystones in no time ? leaves loads of choices from seascapes to harbours.. to city centre to moutains .. just thinking about it I really want to head down to the basin area past ringsend where all the new buildings are … ?? …
For more inspiration check out http://www.noahgrey.com/photography/portfolios/?p=19 ( superb photogrpaher and fomer member here )and i have to find a good graffitti spot also .. Hmmmm thinking cap on ;)

RagDollPhotographyMemberThank you! Can’t use the DART at the moment because i’m a student at the moment and have no money! Can only use Dublin Bus because i’ve a student pass…
adrianmatthewsParticipantHi,
Howth is a good spot. You can reach it by the DART.
you have:
1: Harbour Area
2: The Cliff Walks
3: Deerpark – Wooded area
4: Dun Hill / ShilMartin – Ben of Eadir
5: Claremount / Blascadden beachesAll very different views.
Cheers
AdrianRagDollPhotographyMemberThanks! Good timing… I had just written ‘Howth (?)’ on my list of places to go!. I’ve just removed the question mark :D
LoGillParticipantok – but likewise there are buses to the locations and even on scroungy studenr grants a day ticket return for the dart from Bray to Howth is only 5euro — ?? ..

RagDollPhotographyMemberoh alright cool! That sounds better than sitting on a stuffy bus wondering where the hell i am :D
Thank u
randomwayMemberGlasnevin Cemetary and the Botanic Garden can be visited on one day, there are quite a few buses going in that direction.
RagDollPhotographyMemberHaha, i was thinking of the Botanic Gardens, and couldn’t remember the name of it… i stupidly wrote Marley Park by mistake… I’d of been really pissed off if i had of gone out to Marley Park by mistake. haha. Thanks
bingbongbiddleyParticipantBull Island in Clontarf should have a bit of bird life at this time of year. Or just walking along Clontarf by the sea you’ll see loads of oystercatchers, plovers, curlews, seagulls, yellow wagtails, dunlins. That’s if bird life is your thing….
When the light is nice as well you’ll have a good view across to all the industrial crap going on in Poolbeg.
The botanic gardens and Glasnevin cemetry definitely have potential as mentioned.
PixelleMemberThere’s some great graffitti [sp] to be seen along the LUAS line, I’m sure though it can be accessed by bus.
LoGillParticipantmartinkingphotosParticipantCan definitely recommend the botanic gardens – you have options like:
Flowers – Obvious enough I suppose
Macro
Landscape – plenty of trees, walkways, waterways
Architecture – The glasshouses and other buildings.
People – always plenty around, sometimes you will stumble on a wedding.
Details on getting there are here: http://www.botanicgardens.ie/educ/gettingthere.htmIn Howth, take a walk up to the Martello Tower overlooking the harbour for a good aerial perspective.
Malahide is a nice village for walking around and you also have Malahide Castle and Grounds.
If you go to the Phoenix Park check out the Farmleigh estate – especially now in the run up to Christmas as there
will be markets etc.No shortage of options really.
Martin.
